Hi! My name is Saskia and I live in a small town in the North of Groningen! I study European languages and cultures in Groningen, with Russian as my major.
I have a small dog and I love walking with her. By walking around I can get to know an area in a nice and relaxed way.
Since the end of August I have a kitten as well! He’s super sweet, but also very much an active kitten who still needs to find out how sharp his teeth and claws are.. :p But he is very cuddly, so if you need to be comforted by an animal you’ve found the right place :)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I'm on couchsurfing because I can't travel too often, but I do like to learn new things about cultures! This way, I can help travelers and learn something myself!
Also, it’s just me and my animals in my house and sometimes it gets lonely. So having a guest is really nice. Hearing their stories, their experiences.. I love it!

I’m not on couchsurfing for romantic experiences, so if that’s what you’re looking for please find someone else.

For hosts: when I travel I usually don’t bring my dog. So unless I say I’ll bring my dog I won’t have her with me.

Music, Movies, and Books

Music:
All kinds of music! Generally I don't tend to like rap and electronic music, but I'm open to listening to new music!

Books:
My all time favourite books are the little prince, the little house series, the night circus, extremely loud and incredibly close. But I read a lot and I’m open to new books and genres so if you have any recommendations, please let me know :)

Movies:
I loved interstellar. I've seen it 4 times now, 3 times in the cinema.
Also, about time, the secret life of walter mitty, the theory of everything, the imitation game.. Oh and I really liked the Danish girl!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A balloon flight over the North of Groningen (province)! It was amazing, I could see some of the islands of the Netherlands and I could see Groningen (city) on the other side! Really cool.

Gave a concert for the king of the Netherlands! My choir was asked to sing at a museum when they celebrated the opening of a new exposition and the king attended this celebration.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you some Dutch words/sentences! Or I can teach you how to spin yarn on a spinning wheel, how to knit or to crochet :) Or all of them, if you'd like :)
I love showing you around, so you will get to know something about this beautiful area of the Netherlands. When I have a car we can drive around so you can see even more of the countryside, otherwise we’ll do most things either by foot, bike or train.

I'd love to learn some of your language and culture, since I'm very interested in how other people live. So local dishes, traditions and very much the history of a place. I love learning about how an area came to be the area it is now!

I'm not a party animal, so I can't share that with you. I do like going to a pub every now and then.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can tell you some stories, I’d love to cook a nice vegan meal for you and there’s probably more but that also depends on the person of course.
A little language exchange would be nice, I love learning languages and teaching people some crazy Dutch words!
