ABOUT ME

I'm a curious and easy-going guy, with lots of hobbies and interests. I grew up in the north of the UK in a large national park famous for its extensive moorlands. I went to study engineering at Sheffield in the UK, which is also next to the Peak district. Sheffield is excellent for outdoor activities (e.g. cycling, climbing, hiking, etc) and it has a pretty high amount of beer breweries... Great for student life!

I'm now living in Finland after brief periods in France and Holland. I'm travelling more than ever and loving life!

I haven't couchsurfed yet, but i've stayed on the sofas of friends and their friends for many many years! I'm looking forward to meeting new people in exciting places through CS.

MUSIC:
I play alto saxophone and bass guitar reasonably well. I'm learning how to play a regular 6 string acoustic guitar too, but quite slowly.
I've been to 3 festivals so far this year (2013)... Island in the Sun (Jurmo), Pori Jazz (Pori) and Wanaja (Hämeenlinna). I love rock, funk, soul, blues, punk and ska.

CULTURE:
I'm getting through 2-3 sizeable books at the moment. I'll read almost anything. I've just finished Marc Beaumont's ''The man who cycled the Americas'', Roald Dahl's ''Going Solo'' and the Game of Thrones collection. Next up will be a re-read of my books by George Orwell, John Le Carre and the short stories of Haruki Murakami.

I'm not a big film nut, but I've enjoyed the works by Francois Truffaut. Otherwise, I tend to stick to films with good reviews on IMDB.

I was particularly humbled by the fantastic support given by friends and family in Finland and abroad after being hospitalised 18 months ago. My parents were overcome with emotion when they came over to visit and see how kind the Finns are. The amazing things often come from small acts of kindness, regardless of how often these are repeated.
