CURRENT MISSION

I am on an adventure around the world in a very short period of time. I'm trying to get a bit of perspective on the contemporary world, especially its cities and countrysides and how they are and are not connected.

ABOUT ME

I am a doctoral student in city planning taking an adventure around the world before I write my dissertation. I am an inveterate urbanist, a lover of cities and towns and the people that make them tick. I like nothing more than wandering the streets of new places, learning about their history, politics and culture, and eating my way through the local street food.

PHILOSOPHY

I am a passionate person, active and eager to learn. But I try to temper my energy with kindness and an awareness of myself in spaces and places. I place an emphasis when traveling on being polite and on blending in, and on interesting conversation. I also put a premium on enjoying the romance of travel, imagining myself in any number of books and movies in foreign worlds in days gone by.

This is my first CS adventure, but I plan to host folks back in California when I get back - and get a home and my couch out of storage.

Interessi

As I mentioned, I study and wonder about cities and towns in the contemporary world. I read, write and take photos fairly religiously, but mostly I enjoy a good conversation with new people in new places. My work focuses primarily on social justice, and questions of what that means in the current world.

Musica, film e libri

I read anything about cities and tons of detective fiction. Although I do not shy away from arthouse movies, I have a weakness for trashy action movies from around the world and hip-hop in foreign languages. I am a bit of a romantic, and love to read stories set in places I am visiting.
