About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Well as a new job in New York city waits on the horizon I have need of a couch for a few weeks until my checks start rolling in...

ABOUT ME

Well I've been around quite a bit, and I have just found out about this site which makes me very happy. I was a member of the International Youth Hostel/Hosteling International for quite some time but never got a chance to use them over seas. I have been out of work until now for about 2 years now and I am looking very forward to this opportunity, and possible traveling in the future with Couch Surfing.

I love real surfing, photography, art, music, and film. I tend to work with computers but I am not as fond of them as I am of hiking and getting into the outdoors and traveling. I love to camp, I love meeting new people, and hopefully soon I'll actually get paid more to take language lessons at the U.N. I plan on learning French, Spanish, Chinese, and maybe even Norwegian (the most easily traced back ethnicity in my heritage), as I am a quarter Norwegian.

I have been relatively stuck in the U.S. when it comes to traveling, and have really only been to Mexico, Costa Rica, Madrid (Spain), Jamaica, and Canada. I would love very much someday to see all of Europe, Japan, China, Russia, and Greece. I am sure I would also enjoy Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Nepal, Brazil, Argentina and all of the rest of the world...

PHILOSOPHY

Live and let live.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover. —MarkTwain

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Well as I have just learned about this site, I have not had much time to participate. I do have a good friend who is certainly a good spokes person for CS. I would love to be able to host my couch but will have to make sure it's cool with my roommate (a German Architect/Triathlete) first. In fact that is mainly the reason I have joined. I just got a job as an international civil servant, 3 months ago, and live in Harlem with my roommate and two cats.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have seen quite a bit of the United States. Not quite all 50 yet, but that is a goal.

I have seen Volcanoes erupting from the air in Guatemala while flying to Costa Rica. I hiked from the Tram that takes you from the bottom of Palm Springs to Mt. Jacinto Peak on to my mom's house in Idyllwild CA. I hiked thirty miles in Yosemite CA. I've been to Amboy crater twice and slept in my truck while it was 111 degrees at midnight. I have slept at the base of Devil's tower in South Dakota by myself while it was 0 degrees outside.
I got to go on an art symposium with my dad in Yellowstone National park for 2 weeks and met up with some of the rangers that introduced wolves into the park for the first time.
I've gotten to experience a little bit of Carnival in Cadiz Spain.
I've surfed in Costa rica and helped a giant green leatherback sea tortoise back into the water with 8 other people...
And just recently I finally got a full time job working for the U.N.'s Graphic Department in the Postal Administration Office.

Teach, Learn, Share

I would love to be able to teach things like photography to people, digital and traditional, even share the photographic experience in the form of being their model as well as using them as a model, for portraiture, outdoor adventure type stuff, to include in my artist portfolio, I would love to learn new languages, and music, and dancing from around the world. Sharing of customs, and so many other things. I know how to surf and can help there. I know how to sail, and to ride horses relatively well. I know California really well, and I've lived in 7 states in the United States now so I know a bit about a lot of things. A jack of all trades so to speak. I also know quite a bit about Adobe computer programs especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign, as that's what I do for a living. I would love to get an opportunity to take more pictures out of helicopters. If anyone knows a pilot or anything like that I have been wanting to make a book of aerial photography set to poetry.
