About Me

CURRENT MISSION

After sailing Mexico for four years we sailed across the Pacific to Hawaii, Alaska and down the inside passage. We are setting up housing on land and chartering our beloved boat in the calm waters of Budd Inlet in Olympia, WA. With 2 successful seasons completed our next goal is to travel to warmer, drier climates in the winter and return to the Pacific NW for the spring, summer and fall. Snowbirds!

ABOUT ME

Generous, peaceful couple traveling on a budget. Early retirement to a boat sailing down the Mexican Pacific coast. See http://traveleratsea.blogspot.com/ for more info. Scott and Connie, recently married have downsized, sold possessions, sold the house, and made life plans to escape the rat race and cold weather by building a new life at sea on our 1981 Passport cutter. Update! We bought a house, fixed it up to rent out, renovated the garage addition creating an efficiency apartment to call home. Our business website is: http://www.mjnyoly.com for updated info.

PHILOSOPHY

We are non-denominational, atheist free, thinkers, left leaning believers in personal freedom with a good dose of responsible government controls.

Live for the now. Treat everyone with respect.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
When we are out sailing, we're offering our "couch" on the boat. She's a very comfortable boat and we think someone traveling would find it an interesting place to spend the night.

Interests

Sailing, music, nature. Liberal politics. Wine/beer drinkers. No smoking. Of course, sailing, so along with that are all the interesting things to learn such as navigation, boat repair, sustainable living, fishing, and cultural exchange.

Connie has spent her life playing music and is gifted in multiple instruments the most beautiful being her lovely voice. She performs locally in a few venues when she's not busy with charters.

Both of us love to walk in the woods, enjoy a sunset, eating and cooking and entertaining friends.

Music, Movies, and Books

Nautical books. Classic novels. Foreign films. All sorts of music with a concentration on Latin American and Cuban sounds. Accordion, conga, ukelele, various percussion instruments.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Climbed Mt. Baker and Mt. Rainier and Mt. Saint Helens.. Sailed Puget Sound and inside of Vancouver Island waters, crossed the Pacific. Married a wonderful woman later in life. Why didn't we meet earlier?

Performed in Havana , Cuba with a 10 piece band playing original music.

Teach, Learn, Share

Since we concocted this idea of giving up our jobs, houses, cars, clothing, furniture we have had many people quiz us on how we're accomplishing this journey. Most people retire when they are quite old, sometimes too old to physically do what they would like to do.

Sailing couples we have met all tell us to do it now when we are healthy and not to wait. So we are not waiting, we're going now, without all the money they say you need. And we'll be just fine. But it's fun talking to people who are a little stuck in their lives. Stuck in the States because they have to keep working to keep up the car payment, the health insurance, the mortgage, etc.. The key is to get rid of those debts and get rid of those habits of spending.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Sailing stories. Music. A home cooked meal and a comfortable bed.
