About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Agroforestry and forest restoration within the Maya Biosphere Reserve

ABOUT ME

Have been living in Guatemala since 2001, leaving periodically for work or education to USA and Germany. Work takes me to many ports of the western hemisphere; my studies have taken me to Europe, Central America and Alaska. Am new to El Remate and like it here very much. Am involved in reforestation nearby.

PHILOSOPHY

Become skilled at making the best of unsatisfactory situations. It makes one a valuable companion to oneself and others.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My hosting experiences with CouchSurfing have always been pleasant and interesting. Have hosted yet never surfed within the CouchSurfing organization.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Have slept on uncountable couches, from Cambodia to Canada, and plenty have slept on mine, but what a startling revelation to discover that I could have been doing it all in organized fashion as a member of CouchSurfing.

Interests

Omnivorous interests: Music to maritime, beekeeping to birdwatching.

Music, Movies, and Books

There is a documentary film entitled "Symphonie Kinshasa" that can rekindle one's faith in one's world brothers and sisters, a documentation of the rebuilding of a symphony orchestra in the slums of the capital of Zaire against all odds.

There is a book entitled "The Maya Forest Garden--eight millennia of sustainable cultivation of the tropical woodlands" that inspires my present work.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Continued with college after 25 years of working around the world.

Teach, Learn, Share

I have a spectrum of friends here who are involved in solutions to ecological issues. Any additions are highly appreciated.
For those interested in learning Spanish, my Guatemalan workers make excellent teachers--"total immersion" is the only method they know!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Not planning to surf for now.

Countries I’ve Lived In

Belize, Germany, Guatemala, Mexico
