About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Teaching myself German, and developing my businesses

ABOUT ME

I consider myself a very-open minded guy, and am always up for new experiences, although I definitely have my tastes and preferences.

The kind of people I enjoy the most, and the kind of person that I try to be, are those who are able to spark such a unique thought in your mind, to make you say "Whoa, that is so awesome and unlike anything I have ever heard!"

I am the owner of Zetter Lund, a company based on ecommerce. 3 years ago, I dropped out of college to educate myself independently and develop my own businesses, and I have been overwhelmingly happy with my decision. I realize that I am still young, so right now I'm trying to "set up" my life so that the rest of it will play out successfully. I have a very strong future time perspective and spend much of my time thinking about the future of my life, humans, and the Earth.

I spent my earlier life focusing on academics and mathematics. Recently, I'm focusing more on simply enjoying life and philosophy. I love discussing ideas and human history. At the same time, I am always trying to find the perfect balance. We are humans but also animals; so we need to have intellectual discussions, but we also need to "shit and fuck" :P Right now in my life I am looking for the right 'balance' in every aspect of my life.

I have a website www.scottsutherland.co that I wish to develop more in the future and link to some content that I produce.

I have lived in Austin, Texas for 2 years and LOVE it.

PHILOSOPHY

Throughout my entire life, the paradigm view I have held of the world has changed quite a few times. So because of that, I'm hesitant to make a statement on what my "personal philosophy" is.

I have had many mentally-beautiful experiences where I realized that we are all one thing. All of us really are the same. Not just humans, but the whole universe. And it's nice to be aware of our relationship with the universe and realize that we are still only just simple humans.

But during these 80 years we get to live, we are given a glimpse and a chance to live ANY WAY that we want to! So it makes sense to me that we should all try to explore and experience every aspect of this life that we possibly can!

I think many humans go through life and are governed entirely by their animals instincts, whereas it is nice to be human from time to time. Here are some different subjects/topics that I could converse for hours about:

Engineering
Philosophy
The path of humanity (both past and future)
The most efficient and effective way to implement change
Social psychology and all of its intricacies
Most "meta" things
Technology and its implications
The Internet revolution
Cultural differences and unique worldviews

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I surf and host.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted a few times, and then had the great pleasure of surfing through Northern Europe for about 45 days. It was fun but quite an overwhelming journey to take!

Interests

Right now, the main interest in my life is outsourcing all of the time that I spend working. This way, I can keep earning income and completely free up my time for things that I enjoy. Here are some other things I enjoy:

Building my knowledge and teaching myself new things
Playing guitar and singing
Traveling to new places
Playing tennis and many other outdoor games
Meeting interesting people
Having deep discussions about humanity
Writing and self-improvement
Discussing philosophy and politics
Just relaxing and having a beer :)

Music, Movies, and Books

MOVIES:
At this point in my life, I don't spend much time watching movies, but I do enjoy the sci-fi/action/drama genres (The Matrix, Equilibrium, Blow). I also enjoy HBO series (The Wire, The Sopranos, Boardwalk Empire). I can also relax and enjoy some comedies like Monty Python or South Park.

MUSIC:
Primarily a mix of rock and electronic (Radiohead, Led Zeppelin, Gorillaz, Thievery Corporation) and various Trance mixes for when I work (Armin van Buuren, Deadmau5, Sander van Doorn). Rather than be a huge fan of a few Artists or Albums, I prefer to have a large collection of random songs I enjoy from many different artists.

BOOKS:
I don't read as many books as I used to, but I mostly enjoy non-fiction titles on psychology/humanity (Aldous Huxley, Carl Sagan). My younger years were spent with JK Rowling and Roald Dahl.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Although I don't consider it "amazing", people are usually surprised by this: after studying for 3 years at University, I started some online businesses and prematurely ended my studies. Since then, I've been working to completely outsource all of the work that I do, to allow me to continue making money while having a much more open, adventurous life. This decision from a few years ago has really changed my life. While I have not achieved complete independence, I've saved up enough money from my businesses to travel on my own and have the freedom to go anywhere, anytime that I wish (excluding financial limitations).

Teach, Learn, Share

I have been playing guitar for over 10 years, and have recently been teaching myself singing and drums. Here at my house we have several guitars/drumset/piano, and I am always up for performing and teaching some songs. But I come from a non-musical family, so I am no music genius :)

I also consider myself an intermediate cook, and would enjoy heading to the local food store with you to pick out food to bring back and cook for us. If you are, I am also up for experimenting with new food types and methods.

I love learning and am willing to try almost anything once!
