ABOUT ME

It's difficult to explain everything about a person in one paragraph, but I'm open minded, friendly and inquisitive, but I'm laid back and I have a good sense of humour. I love seeing new places and experiencing new things, usually with a very limited budget! I've always taken every opportunity to get away even if only for a few days and as a result have seen some incredible places and met some wonderful people. After 18 months exploring in Canada and Central America, I returned to the UK for a few months to get my motorcycle licence and earn some money to fund my next adventure. Since then I've ridden nearly 100k miles around the US, Central America, SE Asia, India and Sri Lanka. Next up is Scandinavia and Eastern Europe in the spring, but in the meantime I grab every chance I get to get away. Currently in Lisbon until 3rd January.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Over the years I've stayed with countless people, not directly through this site, but mostly with wonderful people I've met when I've arrived wherever I've been going. Even when I used to travel in connection with work I still tried and stay with local people and learn something about the area I was in. Nothing beats a friendly face and the stories shared at the end of a busy day, much nicer than a cold, impersonal hotel room. I'm hoping to couchsurf much more in the future and meet lots more lovely people.

Even when I'm not actually staying with couchsurfers I do like to check out the local group meet ups when I arrive in a place and to get involved in whatever is going on there at the time.

Interests

Travelling is obviously high on my list and I love the thrill of arriving somewhere new (usually on my own) and seeing what happens next. I love a good film, live music and meeting new people and I'm always up for some good food and good conversation.

Music, Movies, and Books

There is always time for live music. Gigs, small festivals and any chance to see good live music wherever I am in the world is always high on my list. And I always have a book or two on the go.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A toss up between snorkelling along the Silfra fault in Tingvellir National Park in Iceland, climbing Telica, an active volcano in Nicaragua by the light of the full moon and cooking Berber pizza in the desert sand on the Morocco/Algeria border.

Teach, Learn, Share

I want to learn Spanish and I'm trying! I recently took a couple of weeks of intensive lessons in Panajachel, Guatemala but I still have a long way to go. Any help gratefully received!
TEFL - I've done a full TEFL course so if some help with a TEFL is any use to anyone I'm happy to help.
English - if anyone wants some help and support improving their English, give me a shout. I'm always up for a drink or two and some good conversation.
My jobs have mostly involved environmental/conservation/horticulture (and more recently raising money for projects through grants) so if I can help anyone with knowledge in any of these areas then send me a message and I'll see if I can help.
