About Me

Hi there! My name is Sebastian. I am someone who loves to learn, my family says "I have a hobby for collecting hobbies". what this means is I'm just super excited to learn things and add them to my skills as a human so I can eventually take that cultivated knowledge and pass them on to my children :)

In my early youth, i worked primarily odd jobs as anyone does but as my father was a cook growing up i always found myself back working in the kitchen working as a line cook for french restaurants or seafood restaurants. After university, I became a geologist for 10 years working in remote parts of Northern Canada year-round. Working in conditions as low as -55 degrees Celsius. I then decided to transition to a new career to be more at home with the family. I started to work as a Digital Project manager in the Tech industry. Working mostly in the healthcare space trying to make a difference in the Canadian healthcare system.

At home, my partner and I are AirBnB superhosts for guests all around the world and I think it's a really great platform. I love meeting new people and experiencing what they know about the world. And then in exchange getting to share our little part of the world.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

The last time I did a "big" trip was back when I was 18 and traveled solo for 3 months around Europe. between hostels and family. It was a very pivitol shift in who i became. That trip was a wonderful exclamation mark to the end of what i would consider my early youth.

Now that I am 29 and almost 30 I am looking to venture out into the world again and experience what the world has to offer. I am planning on traveling around the world in 2022 or 2023 on my motorcycle. Leaving from Vancouver driving to the East coast of Canada and then flying to the UK and then continuing across the Eurasia Continent to Vietnam. Visiting around 30 countries along the way over 6 months. Eventually taking my bike from Vietnam and shipping it to Australia where my partner and I plan to raise our first child for a time. Then who knows what from there!

Interests

I have done a lot more activities than indicated above but these are the few that have persisted over the years, I have been skiing for 28 years this winter and it is by far one of my biggest passions. getting people out into the backcountry to escape civilization for a bit is an absolute blessing.

I also spend volunteering at the local dog shelter walking dogs and providing training and photography services to the shelter to give the dogs a better chance at adoption. that line of work let me meet Juniper our lovely German Shepherd

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't know about favorite music as I don't believe there is such a thing as "bad music" every genre has good music and every genre has bad music. sometimes it can just be more difficult to find the gems. I love it all. but if I had to pick one artist to listen to the rest of my life it would be Daft Punk Δ. As for books, I am a HUGE Brandon Sanderson fan, I have read everything he has written and love the Fantasy/Scifi Genre in general.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I have lived and worked in places no other person has set foot in. the remote hills of the Mackenzie mountains along the border of the northwest territories and the yukon well in the arctic circle. Every day would be filled with getting into the helicopter and then flying to a mountain ridge and spending the day hiking for 3 months straight. day in and day out. it was a highlight of my life. the wild nature of northern Canada is astounding.

Teach, Learn, Share

You want to know what rock that is and how it came to be? I'm your guy. who knows maybe we will find some gold! trust me I'm a professional ;)
