About Me

ABOUT ME

My name's Jess and I've been couchsurfing since 2007! I'm kind of a chronic underachiever but I've lived in 5 countries on 4 continents and fully expect the list to continue in the future. I'm queer, though I guess I pass pretty easily. I tend to be quiet, conscientious and bookish. I also like a good adventure, but I do everything on the cheap.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I like to save money. I also like to meet new and interesting people.

Interests

I'm a nerd.

General psych/soc/anthro - the intersection between religion and minority identities; minority rights; particularly feminism, queer rights; non-binary gender construction, agenderism, female masculinity; masculine identities expressed by female-bodied queer Cambodians; and Deaf culture; the impact of cochlear implants on Deaf identity and (any) language proficiency, also the impact of language delay on literacy, language fluency, and mental processing.

Music, Movies, and Books

I don't follow specific authors, musicians, directors, etc. Except for a few areas where I've read informally more in depth (i.e., politics and Deaf-related) My knowledge and interests are shallow and wide. I tend to prefer "thinking"-oriented activities and media.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've lived out of a van in Australia for 9 months on a shoestring budget. Held a job in 5 different states and visited every state/territory and capital city. Two years later I bought a $150 Chinese scooter and rode it 3000 miles across three countries (Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia).

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Laos, Malaysia, Mexico, Poland, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, United Kingdom, Viet Nam

Countries I’ve Lived In

Australia, Cambodia, Denmark, United States
