About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Work hard, play harder.

ABOUT ME

I'm a traveler - I just happen to work between my traveling. I work an awful lot, and enjoy it. I am originally from West Virginia, but moved to upstate New York where I worked for years on the Lake George waterfront. New York City now claims me. My life is pretty much all about unplanned relaxing, I work tons, but I'm something of an expert at not working ;-)

PHILOSOPHY

Relax, have fun, eat good food, see the world. The order can change but the message stays the same. Life is so much richer if you mix in good friends and good food, so make sure you have plenty of both :-)

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

My goal with every guest, be it a surfer, a friend, or both is to have them feel at home, consequentially I have friends that now plan parties at my house and invite me :-)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've officially couch surfed only a few times, but have on countless occasions met strangers and stayed at their homes :-) There's a large and growing group of wonderful people that have experienced New York from my apartments. I want to keep that trend going for a long time ;-)

Interests

People, places, food - eating and cooking, etc.. The world. I've had(have) way too many hobbies to list, so I'll stop. My favorite hobby is making fun of Nicky Pallas :-) Sparking my interest is simple, keeping me interested is an accomplishment. Part of my motivation for working is to enable my exploration of the world.

Music, Movies, and Books

When I find time I read, when I have no time I turn my brain off and watch silly movies with friends while making serious food (although the process is far from serious).
:-)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Choosing one experience is impossible, the little ones that make me look at my life and smile are what matters, beauty always stands out though so Skydiving over the Alps, sunset over Santorini, Trümmelbach Falls, the Taj...
Ran through NYC bars wearing a bright orange jumpsuit with a group of other people wearing unitards and other sordid articles of clothing ;-)
Hiked onto private land to climb into a crack in the earth that's formed by the European and American continental plates pulling apart. Where we soaked in a natural geothermal pool by candle light.
Drinking in a pink pig costume in Tokyo.
Skinny dipping in the Pacific.
Living in New York.

Teach, Learn, Share

Teach:
Get over planning - go to therapy if you have to - but once you learn to just go with it, you'll have a much better experience. Just show up and let things work out on the spot. I've stayed in balcony apartments with amazing views all over the world (by chance) just because I never planned. I've had countless adventures because I never had a schedule to stick to, and I've lived a much richer life. So stop the planning :-)
Learn:
I'm addicted to knowledge...

I think what I would like people to really "get" is that giving without any expectation or gain is right. I let people stay with me, in my home, and I don't expect anything from them. It has nothing to do with Karma, or self satisfaction, really it's just part of being human. Ask and expect nothing for giving something and you'll always be happy with what you give and receive from people and the world.
