Overview
About Me
CURRENT MISSION
Connect the world!
ABOUT ME
I'm an engineer living in San Francisco, where I help connect people to the Internet (and hopefully each other). Before that, I was a PhD student, where I studied computer science by day (and night...). I like to build things, learn about what makes people do what they do, and to keep discovering new things about the world.
PHILOSOPHY
The meaning I find in life comes from doing good work well, cultivating meaningful relationships with family, friends, and soon-to-be-friends, and appreciating the people and places that are around me.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
Back when I had a place I could host people, I did that! Unfortunately haven't for a few years now though.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I was hosted by a couple awesome Couchsurfers during a trip across the US, and have hosted a few in my place.

Music, Movies, and Books
Big fan of Phish, Blue Scholars, Nickel Creek (RIP). Generally most jam and bluegrass.
Some of my favorite books are textbooks and technical manuals:
- Wireless Networking in the Developing World
- The Design of Everyday Things
- Tao of Programming
- Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance was a big influence on my thinking, as is...
- Zinn and the Art of Road Bike Maintenance.
I thoroughly enjoyed:
- Cryptopnomicon
- LOTR, Hobbit, and Silmarillion
- Dandelion Wine
- and most everything Hemingway or Vonnegut.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Sleeping under the stars in a hammock in Joshua Tree (inches above a cactus plant -- not many choices of tree in the desert!), the moment I first understood how a computer worked (basically magic!).
Teach, Learn, Share
Things I love talking about and know enough about to share: wireless networking, community networks, the digital divide, the role of technology in service, networking (esp internet architecture), building simple electronics, screenprinting, web development, history of Palestine, ...you may notice that I'm a bit of a geek.
Things I'd love to learn about: wildland firefighting, cooking, your experiences abroad, public health, low-cost technologies, anything that you are extremely passionate about (you can't go wrong with a passionate teacher).
