I'm a big sister. I'm a teacher, although not in the classroom anymore. I work in volunteer services for a nonprofit that serves the hungry, the homeless and the impoverished. I'm a godmother. I'm a friend.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have chosen to live off a modest income. Working for a nonprofit is fulfilling in the best of ways, but it does require that I am resourceful when I travel.

Interests

Building community and deepening relationships have become my favorite past times. That may be because I now live in a rural area, which gives me the opportunity to get to know people better.
I come from a big family. As the oldest of 5 girls, I often find myself in "big sister" type roles. My madre is the reason I am who I am. I come from a line of strong, independent women and am unendingly thankful for that.
I love to play! Team sports are my way to unwind. Anything physical is very life giving to me, so I spend much of my time running, hiking, lifting... Training for a purpose is my passion so I also devote my time to moving friends and clients, chainsawing/procuring wood to heat homes, gleaning and moving pallets at our foodbank, playing with my dogs, shootin hoops at our shelter...

Favorite movie is Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, I also enjoy: the Wizard of Oz, Young Frankenstein, the X-Men series, Superhero movies, Insidious and most well done horror movies...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I'm amazed often at the resilience of the people I work with and the generosity of the folks who thanklessly give. One memory that I hold dear is a visit to Mother Teresa's gravesite... what a blessing.

Teach, Learn, Share

As a former history teacher, I now take those formal edu practices and apply them to my role as an educator of the issues affecting my community. I seek to learn from individuals who live their values and are action oriented. The interfaith community has inspired me for years. What I have to share is a kind heart, true intentions, a passion for learning and genuine friendship.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Smiles, stories and consideration. I do my best to not be intrusive and to be very cleanly. I can assist with animal care and love kids. If you are ever in my area, I can offer a place to stay and recommendations for amazing hikes/drives.
