About Me

I am an interesting person to describe, even for myself. At some point in the past few years, I have realized that life is too short to squander away in self-imposed solitude or slaving oneself for a goal that someone else told us to work for. I want to live my life under my own terms, life every day as though I could die the next, reaping as much good as I can from the world and sowing as much altruistic good as I can.

As meditative and part-way stodgy as that sounds, I really do enjoy meeting new people, making connections and sharing stories. Individual connections mean a lot to me, as I tend to be more invested in the human aspect of life; people's actions, their lives, their individual experiences and what I can glean from them, and so forth.

Long story short, I want to meet some cool people, do some good, have some fun and learn more about the world around me before I die. I suppose this is one of my vehicles to do exactly that.

If you want to take a look at my art or what I am doing with my life, check out my website at http://www.shankarmazyn.com .

Thanks!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

To meet great people, to forge connections with said people, to learn more about the world, to do altruistic good, and most of all, to have fun!

Interests

Art of any and all sorts, creating things with my hands, woodworking, walking, humanity, histories, learning, reading, eating healthily, good music (music is a subjectively perceived platform and the definition of "good" music differs from person to person, I know, that is one of the reasons why I like it so much!) and enjoying life!

Music, Movies, and Books

Music: I can't name one singular favourite, but this list comes close:

Black Emperor, Angel Olsen, Desert Sound Colony, Stereolab, Tangerine Dream, DJ Phono, the Sheepdogs, the Smashing Pumpkins, Jethro Tull, Monster Truck, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Justice, Brant Bjork, Kyuss, Asteroid, Daft Punk, Pink Floyd, Said the Whale, the Sunpilots, Black Sabbath, Om, Tool, Truckfighters, Zaum, Kalamata (seriously, check those guys out), Villagers of Ioannina City (check them out too!), Vista Chino (John Garcia of Kyuss, Brant Bjork and Bruno Fevery, hell yes!), Zeus, Samsara Blues Experiment, Catherine Wheel, Le Tigre, Danny Byrd, Pete Tong, and others I've failed to name, forgot about (sorry!), or just haven't heard yet.

Movies: Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain, Blade Runner, Fight Club, the Big Lebowski, Der Untergang, 9th Company, Clerks, Super Troopers, and Inception.

Books: The Gentlemen Bastards series by Scott Lynch, Ready Player One by Ernest Cline, Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Tales of Belkin by Alexander Pushkin, Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged, The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein, the Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin, the Walking Dead comic books series by Robert Kirkman and friends, Blood Red Road by Moira Young, 1984 by George Orwell, and many others. also basically anything by Russian authors such as Tolstoy, Pushkin, or Nabokov.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Taken a cold shower every morning for a month. Yes, I'm crazy. No, I didn't get sick. Yes, I still do this whenever I take a shower. (okay, well, not for the whole time...)

Either that or doing my own solo art exhibition to remember the 70th anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima + Nagasaki, on 6 + 9 August 2015, just myself and three wooden statues I made.

"Amazing" is a subjective term, anyhow.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you how to cook amazing Morrocan and Mexican food, tell you more about my ethos of life and things, or talk about 20th century Latin American politics.

I would like to learn many things, but the main thing I can learn from YOU, I suppose, would be whatever you see fit to teach me.

I can and will share whatever I am capable of with anyone and everyone around me.

What I Can Share with Hosts

Amazing cooking, good conversation, a knowledge of music that makes my own head spin, spontaneity, and a fun-loving, caring, easy-going spirit.
