About Me

I am a Wife, Mother, Businesswoman, Beekeeper, Long-distance Swimmer, Hiker, Traveller. Slow-food 'old-style' home cooking.

We usually travel as a family (extensively throughout South Africa, hosted many overseas guests on these trips), but now the are kids growing up and moving overseas for work and study. Would love to visit them as often as possible. Would like to visit professional and hobbyist Beekeepers worldwide to share knowledge, information and skills.

This year I will be competing in the world's largest open water swim - Midmar Mile (1650m) followed by the Sterkfontein Dam swim two weeks later (1500m). Towards the end of the year I hope to traverse and summit the Drakensburg Mountains. Yay!

When travelling, I prefer self-catering type accommodation. Have stayed in very rustic (no electricity / no running water) establishments as well as up-market hotels. We love the African bushveld and visit at least 3-4 times a year.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have a 20 year old son Kurt who is working on the yachts. Within the last year he has spent time in Antibes France (6 months), Fort Lauderdale USA (3 months) and has just been part of a crew moving a sail yacht to the Bahamas. He is now looking for day-work in the Bahamas and urgently needs cheap self-catering accommodation close to the marinas. I am trying to help him find the accommodation, with a view that we would like to visit him later in the year.

Music, Movies, and Books

Currently reading a whole lot of the classics (ie written 1800 - 1900)

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Far to many to mention - we lead very full active lives (bet you dont believe that when you see my pictures :) Well, this February I will be swimming in the Midmar Mile (look it up). Very excited, well prepared for it. Then at the end of February I swim the Sterkfontein Dam swim (1500m). In December we spent time on a private nature reserve near Mosselbay (Reins Private Nature Reserve). We went snorkelling in the channels which are about 15m deep and 30m wide. We quadbike quite a lot.
