About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To make it home.... one day!

ABOUT ME

I am an Australian, who has now been away from home for over 3 years. I live in Krakow (cool city!) and in the last few years have lived in Ireland and Scotland. I am always keen for the adventures of discovering new places and meeting like-minded people. I have also managed to hold down full time work, and combining it with my travels, have transformed my working holiday into something a bit more permanent. I love meeting new, interesting and positive people. I am very open and easygoing. I enjoy having no set plans, and just seeing where the road takes me :)

PHILOSOPHY

1. Live each day as fully as you can - no excuses.
2. Always be good to your family - they have always been there, and will always remain!
3. Recognise just how lucky you are. You have a fully functioning body and mind, and there are many people out there who are not so lucky to have these basic priveleges.
4. Think really hard before you get upset about stupid things like the colour of your shoes or the exact size of your kitchen table - it doesn't really matter after all... there are more important things to worry about.
5. The sun will rise tomorrow.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

At present I am, unfortunately, not really in the position to offer my humble one bedroom flat to anyone of the couchsurfing comrades to stay in... But I am always willing to show anyone around Krakow (which is a place where local knowledge can be a real benefit)... Also, my home town in Australia will definitely have it's doors wide open when I finally return. I am from Ballarat, in southern Australia, which is situated about 1 hour away from many interesting places icluding: Melbourne, the SurfCoast, beautiful national parks ect ect.. I hope one day to host CS members and show them around my part of the world.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I am very new to all this. I do have a lot of friends who are CS regulars, and I am a big fan of the idea of community forums like this connecting fellow travellers and helping each other out.
I have heard some great stories of the experiences gained out of CS - and I really want to be involved!
So now is my time to start this experience in Europe, and then repay the favours for visitors to Australia!

Interests

So far I have explored a lot of Europe and the UK, although it's never really enough! I love to travel, and extend my interest in all things historical. I also love photography (although still quite the amateur!), reading, cooking, Music - I play the guitar and have been performing for most of my life as a guitarist/singer.
I generally have an interest in taking the more scenic route in life, rather than the shortcuts. Even if it takes longer, you are a much wiser person for the experiences you gain.
....Oh, and I don't mind a beer, or two!

Music, Movies, and Books

Books: Have been reading a lot of Bill Bryson lately. He has a great way of conveying facts whilst weaving in some priceless historical anecdotes.
...And basically anything I can get my hands on
Music: Again, I like to keep my preferences wide and an open mind to new kinds of music. I have always been drawn to acoustic sounds, blues, jazz, alternative rock and folk. My MP3 player has these genres and many more!
Movies: I will give any movie a try once! I love the experience of seeing something new.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was playing in a small local pub in Ireland every week... My local!
One night (when I wasn't playing) I walked in to find the place pretty empty, except in the back room - where I was to find Shane McGowan sitting there with a few friends having a drink. We sat around, sang songs and drank (of course!) with him and some mutual friends. I was able to meet him in a pretty natural environment. Amazing - have been a fan of The Pogues since I was old enough to talk! ...Ahhh - only in Ireland!

Teach, Learn, Share

Be yourself while travelling, and enjoy the time you spend alone... it can be just as fulfilling experience as travelling with others.
As my recent experience has proved... Always be careful with your personal belongings. Leave all the needless stuff from your wallet at home (or in your bags, whilst walking around). Split up you money ect.

I'm new to CS, so I'm sure to add more to this as I go along?!
