关于我

I hit the wall.. I'd had it at work with the monotony of the grind, girlfriend of 2 years and I broke up, I had recently sold my home and was renting until I found another one to purchase...
One night about a year ago I was watching Anthony Bourdain eating the heart of a snake while in Vietnam and saying what an amazing culture it was and how it's often overlooked in favor of the other non-communist countries in Asia and it literally hit me...
Why am I spending my life sitting at work all day to come home to my tiny corner of the world, when there is so much to experience and see out there. I've never been out of the country (only to Peru as a trial run for backpack gear and to see an amazing country!)
It hit me hard... I now know what I want to do with my life (for at least right now)...fast forward to 1 year later, after getting rid of my motorcycles, furniture, and going minimal, I'm now starting my travels around the world backpacking out of an 85L backpack indefinitely... until I figure out whatever comes next in a year or two. I'm starting in Iceland and finishing wherever and whenever I'm done...

I'm hoping to make it around the world on a minimal budget to see new countries, make new friends and check out new cultures, all three are super important to me but the people and new cultures are the most important for me personally. We Americans (as a whole) have so much to learn about the world beyond the tourist traps, and what other cultures have to offer. I think sometimes we have so much to see in the US we get caught up in our own backyard.

I hit the wall at work recently and was feeling like there had to be more than the 4 walls of my office. My wanderlust kicked in hard after a breakup and selling my house and I realized I didn't have that much keeping me from literally walking around the world now!
I have no references and have never hosted, was unfamiliar with couch surfing until a friend recommended it this week, right before my travels, and after reading about the people and experiences that can be had here, I'm so happy I've found this concept!

兴趣

Oh man...interests are all over the board 🤪.. I truly like the idea of being a jack of all trades, master of none. I mostly attribute this to having so many interests and things I'm curious about. I learn something about *whatever*... (enough to learn if I like it or not)... then stick with it just long enough to get decent at it, only to get distracted by something else really cool... and move on to another shiny new interest.

I can usually discuss a ton of fun topics but not too deeply about some them; I love to hear what others know and think about things so we can have a fun convo and maybe both learn something new and cool. My interests that stay constant are enjoying crossfit, motorcycle riding, running /swimming/ some type of exercise, oh and new foods and local beers. I recently got to try Cuy in Peru, now that was fun!

音乐、电影和书籍

Any music but old old country western!😂 I listen to EDM, trance and dance for workouts, 90's alt rock and rap, 80's metal and 60-70's classic rock (more Beatles, less Elvis)
Read: Self help and how to books, Stephen King is my go to guy for most reading recently.
Movies: I have a library of about 1500 movies on a 3TB hard drive so I love all of them...except romantic comedies. Too predictable 😉

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

Standing on an Inca trail high in the Peruvian mountains and watching the sun come through the clouds below lighting the entire valley in cool bright white light. I hope to add many many more!

教,学,和分享

I love woodworking even though I'm not great and I tinker on motorcycles here and there with modifications but I'd probably break something if I tried to fix an engine. I'm always learning something on computers and Linux, I've done home repair and upgrading before selling my home so I probably could teach someone how to lay a hardwood floor and have it turn out nice looking. 😁👍

Learning... Man so much here. I'm trying to learn more Spanish after my visit to Peru. I figure all of South America speaks it, I probably should learn a language spoken on a full continent and I'm still working on French since it's a beautiful language. I'd really like the chance to meet someone local to where I'm staying... as I'm traveling around the world to try new food/cultures, natural wonders and people, having a great host that can teach me about themselves, their culture, hobbies and travel stories would be so much fun!

Obviously the real world and work for my hosts can make it impossible to be available to help me with all of the above, but I don't really require anything much from my host... but the more you can share I'd appreciate! I enjoy wandering and learning new things solo too and up until now, I've done most things by myself, so a busy host isn't a deal breaker for me. I hardly need a babysitter and I play by the rules so any guidelines you set down I'm cool with, I mean hey, it's your home and I'm the guest.

I love conversations and sharing interesting stories, I'm a bit of a talker and am not shy, but I won't talk to the point of annoying the hell outta ya. I enjoy new experiences and am a relaxed and easy going guy, hence my decision to do an around the world backpacking trip

I don't really get upset... Life's too beautiful and chill to get wound up over anything so I'm fine with anything that comes my way really.
