ABOUT ME

I love traveling. As a kid, my family lived in Nicaragua working with a missionary organization called Mercy Ships. I spent basically the first seven memorable years of my life (3-10) immersed in a culture completely separate from all of my current friends so I've always felt somewhat "worldly?" I guess. Haha. It's just nice having the knowledge that I live in a privileged nation and that I shouldn't take anything for granted.

I've been in East Texas for the past ten years with my family and now work at the International Operations Center for Mercy Ships as the Marketing Coordinator. I love working, but I also love getting away from it all. So, I try to take at least one road trip a year.

PHILOSOPHY

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I have never Coachsurfed before, but have several friends who have and say they enjoyed their experiences. I probably would open up my home to surfers, but I am living with my parents currently.

Interests

I am pretty big into Instagram (@srt4shawn) and use that as a way to meet and stay with a lot of people, so I guess you could say that is one of my interests. Haha. I enjoy taking pictures, listening to music, and fiddling on the 5 songs I know on guitar.

Music, Movies, and Books

Love The Avett Brothers, Head & the Heart, The Weepies, Band of Horses, Andrew Bird, Joshua Radin, etc. Also, pretty much all 60s and 70s as well.

I pretty much enjoy most movies but I guess some favorites would be A Knight's Tale, Scott Pilgrim VS the World, Big Fish, About Time, and The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.

Don't read that much but trying to get more into it with some audiobooks this trip. I enjoy Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Redeeming Love, The Giver. Mostly anything that keeps my attention.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Well I grew up in Nicaragua and got to zip line through the rainforest a couple times as a kid. So that was pretty fun. I've also been skydiving. That was pretty fun, too.

Teach, Learn, Share

I've done my fare share of road tripping, so I could give anyone tips on how to live on the road. Last year I was on the road for 5 months by myself just driving around, meeting people, and seeing amazing sights. It was an amazing time.
