About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Meet new people, make new friends, create lasting relationships

ABOUT ME

My friends would say that I'm quiet at first, but once I warm up I'm pretty funny. I don't see it, but I guess if I thought I was funny that would make me feel bad if no one laughed. I'm "adorkable" and I love to have a plan. I'm not much for last minute things, but every once in a while I throw caution to the wind. I'm about to turn 21 so we'll see how that impacts my life. Probably not at all, but at least I'll be able to buy my own alcohol.

PHILOSOPHY

I can't change the direction of the wind, but I can adjust my sails to always reach my destination.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm hoping to meet new people in the area, I'm new to the LBC. I miss having people to go out on the town with!

I've also hosted 2 amazing Swedes for a great 3 days as well as a nice gentleman from Philly for 2 days.
I try to give the "friend experience" to my surfers. I want them to feel at home like they are visiting someone they've known for ever.
Side note: people who cook me dinner while they stay are my favorite people.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As I mentioned above, I recently had the great pleasure of hosting for my first time. I had no idea what to expect, but the very first night they made me a great dinner after a long day of traveling. The next day they enjoyed Disneyland which is about 20 minutes from my condo, and I had work so we each did our own things. Their last day, we went out on the town in Long Beach. We started off with a Sunset ride on the Ferris wheel, then we were off to an Irish pub and a Comedy show. After hosting those two amazing people, I look forward to opening my home/couch to surfers when my roommate is out of town.

Interests

I love to dance at the club...well "white girl dance". I also love getting all dressed up just to go get frozen yogurt or something. People watching is always super fun. I love reading, especially rereading John Green books. I was a nanny for a year and a half for a few different families, but I hated the unstable nature of my paychecks. Now I work for a company that placed me in a school, so I can pursue my love of teaching children.

Music, Movies, and Books

Moulin Rouge, Finding Nemo, and Forrest Gump are my top three favorite movies
I'm open to all music, but I'm currently loving The Killers, Maroon 5, Neon Trees, and Mumford and Sons best :)
As for books, anything by John Green. I also love young adult fiction. Try not to judge me.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Going to Cabo has to be my number 1 favorite travel experience. I got to swim with the dolphins, go clubbing, barter with locals, and at one point I held a baby lion cub ( I was scared out of my mind, and the pictures prove it). Honestly, it reminded me of how much I love to travel, which I had suppressed because things are always tight financially. I'm currently saving up for a trip to Europe, so hopefully that will happen.

Teach, Learn, Share

The biggest challenge of couchsurfing has to be that I was raised in a family where strangers were to be feared. I was taught that being a girl instantly makes me vulnerable to men who can over power me. I decided once I moved out that I needed to break that fear and learn to accept strangers into my life. I'm also quite capable of handling myself, which helps me feel more comfortable. Slowly but surely I'm becoming the person I always wanted to be.
