ABOUT ME

This is a joint profile for Alysha and Shawn as the two of us typically travel together. We are living this summer in Whitehorse, Yukon and trying to experience as much of this amazing region as possible! Victoria, BC is home the rest of the time. Alysha is a high school teacher and Shawn is a law student at UVic.

PHILOSOPHY

True fulfillment comes from having meaningful relationships, pursuing one's interests and being able to contribute. Life is also about giving back to others, in big or small ways.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

We have mostly surfed so far. We would really like to host but our living situation makes that difficult at the moment. We will definitely start hosting regularly once we are able to, as we want to start repaying the kindness and generosity we've experienced from people on the road.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

We've surfed with people in British Columbia, Washington State, Oregon and California. So far we've couch surfed while on cycling trips to meet people who live in the area where we're staying and switch it up from camping.

Interests

We are both active people who love the outdoors and exploring new places. Our outdoor interests include road cycling, XC mountain biking, running, swimming, and hiking. We enjoy meeting new people from all walks of life. Shared experiences and conversations with people met while travelling can be the best part about a trip.

Music, Movies, and Books

We like discovering new music through Grooveshark and the recommendations of friends. Over the years Shawn has gone from obsessing over a few bands (like The Who) to enjoying more types of music at a shallower level. When the weather is less nice you might find us watching shows such as Mad Men, Arrested Development, and The Office (Seasons 1 to 3). Shawn gets obsessed over The Wire but Alysha doesn't understand the hype. She has watched all of Breaking Bad though while Shawn hasn't.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Over successive summers we've cycled over 2600 km from the top of Vancouver Island to San Francisco. Backcountry hiking provides some amazing memories too.

Teach, Learn, Share

Alysha would be happy to answer all kinds of science questions, particularly those around botany, ecology and human physiology. Shawn knows a fair amount about the fascinating world of British Columbia provincial politics through his old job[/sarcasm].
