About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To convince myself that everything will be okay, and in those moments of doubt, have faith in the good of humanity.

ABOUT ME

I am an artist at heart. I play music and write fiction. I like people with a good sense of humour, and I like to have good conversations, either out on the hiking trail, or while sipping away at some red wine. Originally, I am from Toronto, but I have lived in Newfoundland , Quebec, and in Nova Scotia for the past ten years. I have fathered four children, who are all grown up, and 3 in university (one at Universite Laval).

PHILOSOPHY

Be human as much as I can.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I enjoy hosting.  I really am happy when fun/loving people come from all over the world.  We play local music for them, take them on hikes, and sometimes, cook for them.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have hosted a few people from France and Germany, and I have had a great experience. I just started surfing myself this spring (twice in Quebec) and I have had a great experience. I enjoyed sharing my food and talents with my host. I really appreciate the kindness of my guest.

Interests

I play all kinds of music on various instruments, mostly acoustic guitar, and I attend many live performances. I do a lot of biking, skiing, and hiking. I am a ferocious reader. I am also writer, and anyone can check out my works on Amazon.com, or on the internet somewhere between here and Russia. Lastly, I am the publisher of InExile Publications.

Music, Movies, and Books

My favorite books are Slaughterhouse-Five, Breakfast of Champions (both Vonnegut), and Ceremony (Silko). My favorite films are: Matrix 1, Ken Burn's Jazz History. I have seen over 1000 bands live, and it is hard to say what is my favorite. I would say my most memorable experience was seeing Pink Floyd's The Wall. I seem to be listening to Nick Drake a lot these days.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was out hiking at the Nottawasga Bluffs, and I found a guy stuck down in a cave for 8 hours. I called 911 and a team of firefighters rescued him after 12 hours. The Chief of the firefighters told me that if I had not found him, the guy would have died, leaving two children.

Teach, Learn, Share

I enjoy meeting people who are serious learners of life. I would consider these people to be those who read about all kinds of subjects, from the ancients to present. If the topic of Kant comes up, I enjoy it, if it is about Shakespeare, then I go with that, if it is about Heath Ledger, I can handle myself with that too.
