About Me

ABOUT ME

I am a 57 year old professional in the medical feild who loves to travel, mostly with my daughter, who is a 19 year old college student. Even our most simple trips turn into adventures. We are currently on a 3,000 mile road from Michigan to Yellowstone and back. As we were on the ferry across Lake Michigan we heard about couch surfing from a newly made friend and decided to check it out. We love meeting equally adventurous, optimistic people so couch surfing sounded perfect! We never have a problem meeting people with our contagious smiles and knack for interesting conversation. On vacations we are free spirited and spontaneous, love cruising down the open roads listening to country music, and always laughing at our stupidity!

Interests

Usually I am busy with work and my daughter with college, but we like to break away from the monotonous working life and set out on open-ended vacations! However, when a vacation isn't in order most of our free time is spent outdoors. In the winter I enjoy skiing while my daughter snowboards, figure skating, and simply frolicking in the snow. The summertime in Michigan allows much more comfortable outdoor conditions that we spend on the beaches close to our house, golfing, and of course traveling! I also enjoy reading, my favorite being true crime.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Machu Picchu was breathtaking. I visited back in 2002 and was taken aback by the seemingly untouched settlements nestled between the rugged mountain peaks as well as the welcoming natives who happily lived so simply. The trip started by flying into Lima Peru where we switched to a smaller plane and flew onto Cusco. From there we traveled by train up the narrow tracks along the side of the mountain to Machu Picchu. Even though I was only there for the day it took my breath away and Is something I'd like to revisit with my daughter one day. The other memory is a very unique one my daughter happen to experience. She went for a night stroll along one of the beautiful beaches in Barbados when she came across a group of three men, with head lamps, very interested in something along the bushes. She approached them and asked what they were doing. They said they were monitoring an endangered sea turtle lay her eggs. They even let her sit next to the turtle, pet it, and watch it lay a few eggs. It was definitely a once in a life time experience to see it all happen in the wild!
