About Me

to return the beautiful energy I have received from other couchsurfers

Hey there! So, me... I am totally FUN, and a happy person, and fully engaged with living and taking deeper breaths and trying to be present in each moment. Currently, I am also pretty confused: in a kind of middle place, doing work with my hands and my voice, yet traveling and bobbing up and down, not sure how long to stay where, if it's okay to endlessly travel... When I am staying still, I am teaching creative writing and working at a food co-op and spending time with family. I studied creative writing and love talking words. I don't really have a place to host anyone as of now since I am either living at home with parents or traveling. Maybe I could move in with you? Love seeing the world, whether it be another continent, or the small towns of the North American midwest. I really enjoy meeting people who are excited about life. I love taking my time, so driving or biking or walking through towns and states and countries is my preferred means of travel. Flying over all those people and homes is not fun for me. I like taking pictures of things on sidewalks or signs on the road and small things and big things.

"Free yo mind and your booty will follow" P-Funk for life

Also: "If I can't dance I don't want to be part of your revolution"

This is not to say that my "personal philosophy" is not actually in my own words - it is beyond words, so I'm not going to attempt to manifest it in this little box! You should know that I love to dance. I have no technical dance skills whatsoever. And I love to HULA HOOP! It is full of joy.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I have hosted a few times when I had my own apartment, and I loved it, but the majority of my CS experience has been through the generosity of my hosts. I am so grateful for my hosts, they make it possible for me to travel! I love fostering community in any way I can - and finding community while on the road is so joyful.

I have couchsurfed through Peru (Lima, Arequipa, Cusco, Puno) and on a road trip from Illinois to New Mexico (Topeka, KS, OKC, OK, and Taos, NM), and also when driving from Illinois to Colorado (I loved Nebraska)... I have not hosted much because I have been living with parents or have been at school in small towns... but I hope to surf and host more as soon as possible!

Music, Movies, and Books

I really enjoy almost all kinds of music (folk, REGGAE, dub, ska, FUNK, blues, classic rock, ambient, trip hop, old school hip hop, grunge, gypsy, BLUEGRASS, cabaret, experimental, soul, BILLIE HOLIDAY, fiona apple, ray charles, ETC).

I like many books and films as well, mostly poetry or flash fiction anthologies. My favorite movies may be Revolutionary Road and The New World and Grey Gardens. I'm not good at making these lists.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Gosh - I'm really not good at summing up my experiences in these little boxes. I hiked up Maccu Piccu and I survived high school. I've got more stories, too, but I need to formulate the words...

Teach, Learn, Share

I am learning how to cook! I know a lot about myself! I could teach you... about the significance of getting oil changes in your car. How to fix a flat tire on a bike. How to garden. How to make a cup of tea and how to drink it. How to burn lots of pots in the process of learning how to cook. How to make the best out of everything. I want to learn more about farming, always more about writing, about far-away lands, how to bind my own books. I am learning how to teach creative writing to high school students. I really enjoy talking to other teachers. I love talking about music. I will share almost anything I have, so please don't take everything. I have more books than I could ever read and I love them like children! I could teach you about how to accumulate many bookcases.
