关于我

I absolutely love life. I am constantly learning and evolving and am very grateful for all the experiences and people who make this life the gift that it is.

I was born in Panama (Central America) but only lived there until I was three; grew up in Boise Idaho and have Native American, Hispanic and German ancestry.

I have a very easy going approach to life, though I have little patience for the superficiality which permeates our culture. I take experiences head-on and demand truth, integrity and tolerance from myself, as well as the people I call friends.

I stand up for what I believe in but I am also open minded enough to know that I can sometimes be wrong - which allows me to be able to see and understand a situation from many different perspectives.

我为什么加入 Couchsurfing

In the last two years I have decided to commit my life to travel. Having become disillusioned with the "prescribed" way of living life, I find foreign countries and spontaneous road trips provide me with the learning and growth that I can get from nowhere except pure, unadulterated experience.

That's where you come in.

I travel cheaply and I seek out authentic experiences that aren't built around cheesy tourism and expensive resorts.

兴趣

I love reading, writing (anything from lesbian erotica to fiction short stories to my travel blog to poetry...although I'm currently paid to write website content for a beauty products corporation), DANCING, art (mostly drawing but I am also getting more into painting with acrylics), soccer, ultimate frisbee, yoga, Qi Gong, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, rock climbing (to work on my crazy fear of heights - how else will I overcome my fear?), LGBT activism, singing, graphic novels and a whole lotta other stuff.

音乐、电影和书籍

It would be easier to narrow down what music I DON'T like, which is primarily newer pop country. I'm not a huge metal fan unless I'm in a certain type of mood - but give me some soul or something with a great beat I can shake my booty to and I will show you what it means to GIT DOWN. haha

As for my favorite movies, there are so many this little text box could never contain them all. Suffice to say that I tend to like kid movies that have adult humor, thrillers, action, comedies, the OCCASIONAL drama (but not too much), mysteries and yes...even horror films. I'm NOT a fan of war movies and if the writing is bad, I will likely watch it but make derisive yet hilarious comments the entire time. Which may be entertaining to some, but annoying to others.

我做过的一件不可思议的事情

When I worked as a developmental therapist, one of my clients had Downe Syndrome and it manifested as him moving verrrrry slowly and never speaking over the smallest of whispers.

In order to get this young man to go about his day, the company I worked for would use kitchen timers to time everything in his life: everything from going to the bathroom to washing his hands to getting dressed to bathing to cutting carrots to sweeping the floor to...well, you get the picture. EVERYTHING was timed and the idea was that when the timer would go off, it would signal him to move on to the next task.

One day, I realized he was able to tell time on his watch because he would get grumpy whenever we made dinner and it wasn't served on time. I noticed he would check his watch (eeeever so slowly) and grumble under his breath at the tardy meal.

So I figured, if he can tell time and know when dinner is supposed to be served then it follows he can use his own watch to know when he should be done dressing, bathing, washing hands, etc.

So I re-wrote all of his programs so the hated timer was no longer needed and demonstrating that he had the skill to run his own life by being attentive to his watch.

This literally changed his entire life and made life much easier for not only him, but me as his therapist and his family was completely freakin thrilled as well. (Do you have ANY idea how aggravating it is to have kitchen timers go off over and over and over again throughout your day?)

Definitely one amazing change I helped create.
