About Me

I relocated to Zurich, Switzerland recently. I live in a village 30 minutes from the city so it's not very convenient for me to host guests. But I am happy to hang out and show you around the city. I am quite new here too so I am not very familiar with the city yet. I would like to explore Zurich with you!:)

I will be moving into an apartment which I will be sharing with two other girls so I am not sure whether I can host. I will see when I get everything settled. But I am definately looking forward to hanging out with interesting travelers out there and showing you guys this amazing city.
2017.5.6

After one year of traveling the world, I am moving back to my home country and settling down in this amazing city called Chengdu. I hope I will be able to host when I find my own apartment and get everything ready.

I am a Chinese girl who is currently living in San Francisco bay area, USA. I was born and grew up in Chongqing, which is a very cool and big city in southwest China. My hometown is famous for spicy food (have you tried Chongqing style spicy hotpot? It's awesome! ) and called 'the Mountain City'. After getting my bachelor degree in Beijing, I came to the US to pursue graduate study. I have been living in the US for 6 years now and have lived in Michigan, New York state, Oregon and am now in California.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am new to the couchsurfing scene. I have traveled a lot by myself but haven't tried couchsurfing yet. I heard many great things about it and think it's a great opportunity to meet new friends and experience the authentic local culture. I traveled in Southeast Asia and Russia in the past several months and am going to Europe in early March. I will be in Europe for two months and then go to Turkey for two weeks and then off to Central America. I may return to San Francisco bay area or back to China after my travel. I will be able to host people when I settle down.

Interests

Traveling is one of my biggest passions. I traveled to quite some places in China when I was a university student. There are still many places I would like to explore since China is such a big country and the culture, language, food and landscape are so different in each place. It's a shame that many foreign tourists only visit the big cities in the east like Beijing and Shanghai when they are traveling in China. There are many majestic sceneries in the south and west part of China and most of them are undiscovered yet by foreign tourists. I would definitely love to see more and more people from all around the world coming to China and exploring the rich culture, amazing landscape and great food. Chinese people are very welcoming and you will definitely have an amazing time here.

I have lived in quite some places in the US, the midwest, the east coast, the Pacific northwest and the west coast. While I am in the US, I try to explore as many places as I can and have been to more than 25 states in the US. I especially love to visit national parks and be out in the nature. I enjoy hiking, camping, or just laying on the beach. I am very jealous of people who are great bikers. I still don't know how to ride a bicycle even though I have learned it many times in my life. I guess I just don't have good balance. I can't do the standing tree pose very well when I do yoga. Speaking of yoga, I have been doing it frequently and regularly for 3 years now and absolutely love it.

I also like martial arts. Being a Chinese girl who grows up watching a lot of Kungfu movies and TV dramas, I am very enthusiastic about different styles of martial art. I did some taekwondo, kendo which is Japanese sword fighting, and mixed martial art. When I was in Thailand, I tried to learn a little bit Muay Thai. But I am not good at any of those (a bit embarrassing to say that) :)

Since I love traveling and am interested in different cultures, I love learning languages. I think knowing the local language is probably one of the best ways to get to know the people and culture. I started to teach myself Korean 10 years ago and Japanese 6 years ago. I also learned some Indonesian and Italian in university. But have totally forgot them by now (don't have many chances to practice them in the US). I hope I can pick up some French, German and Spanish during my travels. It would be highly appreciated if you can teach me any languages.

I also love listening to audiobooks, radio shows and stuff. Because I am not a big reader, I like to absorb knowledge and information from listening. I think I got most of my language skills by listening. I like watching documentaries, news and Ted talks.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like a wide range of music, but mainly listen to pop, hip hop, kpop. Sometimes I like to listen to some English, Chinese or Korean ballads when I feel the mood.
Hope to read more books but it's quite hard to sit down and finish a book nowadays.
Like many genes of movies: action, science fiction, romance, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Trekked three days (about 100 kilometers) from Kalaw to Inle Lake in Myanmar. Lived in local villages without tv or internet.
Camping seven days in Alaska when it rained almost everyday.
Met a bunch of cool Russian guys in St Petersburg and drove to Belarus with them, stayed with a local family, partying with a lot of Belarusian young people without any of them speaking English. Hung out with a Belarusian guy for one day and communicated everything through Google Translator.
Went to Lake Baikal (the deepest lake in the world) in Siberia on January when the temperature was minus 40 degrees.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach you Chinese, yoga (if you are totally a beginner) and anything that I know.
I want to learn many things: swimming, biking, dancing(any form of dance), different languages, different sports, and any knowledge and skill, or just about life in general.
I can share my stories and experience.
Oh, I can aslo give you a very authentic traditional Thai massage. I took massage classes when I was in Chiangmai, Thailand.
