Overview
About Me
I loved to do river trekking and cliff diving when I was in Taiwan, and went hiking at least twice a month when I was in college. To pursue my dream of an MFA degree and hiking the PCT, I decided to move to Portland. I have been immersing myself in Oregon's natural profoundness. I am always inspired and getting materials with every exploration and observation while I am doing outdoor activities. My outdoor experience in Oregon so far includes: hiking on Cape Falcon Trail, Goat Rocks Wilderness, and bicycle touring on the Historic Columbia River Highway, Banks-Vernonia State Trail and part of the US 101 in Oregon.
I’m training to start the PCT trail in Ashland, Oregon this July and reach the Canadian border in August.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
In Taiwan, I run a clean space with my sister Carly. https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/carly-hu
We have great experiences getting along with couch surfers and I also volunteered with foreign artists. Every time we caught on each other’s culture and had great fun. I love to make friends and enjoy the life.

Music, Movies, and Books
My favorite movie is “Nuovo Cinema Paradiso”, an Italian drama film full of Nostalgia and intertwines sentimentality with comedy.
I appreciate French director Leos Carax, Danish director Lars von Trier, Taiwanese filmmaker Tsai Ming-liang, and so on.
I hardly watch commercial films except animation. Inside Out is one of Pixar Animation I preferred. I'm still moved by the scene that Bing Bong jumps out to allow Joy to escape the memory Dump and is forgotten.
I listen to indie folk songs, like Bon Iver, Angus and Julia Stone; post-rock, included Mono, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, and several classical music, like Sergei Rachmaninoff.
Most of my readings are in Mandarin Chinese but I love some American ones, especially “The Grapes of Wrath” by John Steinbeck and “On the Road” by Jack Kerouac. Both are stories with pursuing the dream but in different generation and situation, and they’re so typical for me to understand American culture.
