CURRENT MISSION

I live and work in El Progreso, Honduras. It's located about an hour from the beaches of Tela, and about 20 minutes from the San Pedro Sula airport. I run a children's home for orphaned and abandoned children.

ABOUT ME

I was born in Japan, immigrated to the US with my family and grew up in Virginia. Since 2004, I've been involved with NGO work in Honduras. When I graduated from college, I decided to move down to Honduras.

I started a nonprofit organization (www.ceciskids.org), a children's home for orphaned and abandoned kids, a school, and a hostel.

I enjoy backpacking, salsa dancing, soccer, kickboxing, exercising, reading, having dinner with friends, spending time with the kids from the children's home.

I'm renting a big house in town for extremely cheap, and have two extra beds that are collecting dust. Although I host tons of volunteers from all over the world, they only come during certain weeks of the year.

The rest of the year, I'm one of the only foreigners in town. I won't lie, I kind of get lonely sometimes!

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Just getting started. I'm renting a big house in town for extremely cheap, and have two extra beds that are collecting dust. Would be great to host backpackers, learn their stories, show them around. I get kind of lonely sometimes, although I spend time with the kids every day.

I want to meet new people who are backpacking, to give back. People who may be interested in learning about my NGO, meeting the kids, maybe even volunteering some.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I joined in 2009 but never used it. In 2015, I re-activated my account.

I was named a 2009 CNN Hero on the Larry King show for my NGO work in Honduras.

I spent two months (2014) in Cali, Colombia to learn to dance salsa colombiana.

I spent one year (2001-02) in Brazil trying out for different soccer teams.

I'm renting a giant house in town (for extremely cheap) and live alone, so I have two extra bedrooms, both with private bathrooms/showers.

I have WiFi, fully equipped kitchen, and huge rooftop terrace. My house is two blocks away from all the restaurants, gyms, and bars in town. You can find traditional lunches for about $2.50.

I'm also building a tree house next to our children's home, so that may be available as well soon.

I also have a truck and a bicycle for transportation.

If you're a competitive soccer player, I can set up some games for you against the locals. I run a U-12 and a U-16 boys team, as well as a men's team.

I usually go out to the bars on Saturday nights to hang out with friends and dance. I can take you around.
