A diplomat who ended up knitting socks with grannies, - some people say about me). And they are right.
I thought i want to build political bridges between countries but realized it's way more fun to build bridges between social entrepreneurs, these positively crazy guys solving social problems around the world in innovative and systems changing ways. This is how I ended up with the magic international organization Ashoka and its Central European headquarters in Vienna, and later became a social entrepreneur myself, employing Russian grannies to produce cool stylish socks and connecting them to young stylish guys whose feet are freezing. btw, get Yourself a pair here - http://noski-tabani.ru/ :).
I feel at home in the nature and my perfect holiday is somewhere in the uninhabited area, lake or mountain of Russia or other post-Soviet countries. I try to live by the 3 R's principle (reduce, reuse. recycle), transport myself wherever I can with my 40-year-old bike and hope I will soon find courage to move to a farm where I will be producing my own goat cheese. I find goats so beautiful and smart and goat cheese is one of the best things that can happen to me.
I love to discover new instruments, melodies and songs, especially folk ones. My recent passion is accordion, it takes a while to get hold of it though. Once i do, I will put on my warm grannies' socks and will be playing folk songs from all over the world to my goats. that's the plan :).
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
I have been couchsurfing for years (even before I learned what it is) and I think by now I owe half of my friends to it. The people I meet here for some reason are very often on the same wave with me and we share curiousity about life, optimism and openness to strangers.
Although I have been very active on CS in my student years, once I started working I had almost no time to connect with it. My last memorable activity was organizing crazy MorCovery (Morning Discovery) group of Vienna in 2013 which used to meet once a week at 7am, walk around Vienna and tell each other curious stories about its history.
I terribly missed CS in the last years and now I am back to it! I cannot host much as I am frequently away, but I hope I can give back by sometimes hosting and sometimes organizing hiking trips or morning activities during the week.
If You are actually reading the profile because You want to stay at my place, just address me with the secret key nickname shirchick and I would know that You took the effort to read my profile before writing to me :).
