About Me

While my name is Sidisse, most people I know just call me Sid. Feel free to as well.

A little bit about me: I'm nineteen, turning twenty in a few weeks, and I've already had quite a few international experiences - as I've lived, studied, and worked abroad. Out of all the places I've gone, I've spent the most time in Canada and the UK and these are probably my two favourite places in the world. Though I would really like to see the rest of the world - especially more of Europe and Asia.

In terms of what I do when I'm travelling (which is most of the time): I'm a university student in their senior year. I've been studying international relations and history since 2014, which has been another great way to learn more about other countries (at least from an academic perspective). It would definitely be great, though, to have more first-hand knowledge of places. Which is another reason why I'm on this site.

I also have tons of hobbies, which hopefully you might share. For instance, I enjoy concerts, festivals of all sorts, team or partner sports, and checking out arts and culture (especially the cinema or any exhibitions/museums). I think it's also great getting out of the city every now and then - so I love hiking and exploring the outdoors in general.

Lastly, I'd say that I'm very easy going, and easy to get along with, while still definitely being aware of people's feelings and respectful of their wishes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I want to see as much of the world as I can and also travel for as long as I can when I do go decide to disembark on a journey. This can be pretty difficult to manage though, as a student with a pretty limited financial budget.

So I think Couchsurfing enables traveling to become more feasible for people like me. More than that, it just seems like a great way to meet new people in a new city; as well as just being a chance to experience that city as authentically as you can (despite not being an actual local).

Music, Movies, and Books

My tastes are pretty diverse. I will admit to having some guilty pleasures, like Top 40 Chart hits, to being a fan of more acclaimed works. That being said:

Favourite Books - I'm a huge fan of memoirs or personal essays, like the Testament of Youth by Vera Brittain or Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls.

Favourite Movies - An Education directed by Lone Scherfig; This is England directed by Shane Meadows; and The Social Network.

Favourite Music - Florence and the Machine or Paolo Nutini would probably tie for my current favourite artists. Aside from that, I'm a huge fan of Jeff Buckley, Amy Winehouse, Feist, Jake Bugg, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and a lot of British indie or rock bands (Oasis, Blur, the Kooks, etc).

What I Can Share with Hosts

I'm humorous, easy going, laid-back, and always willing to have a laugh (when appropriate of course), but will always be respectful of you and your property.

So I I think I can bring a great attitude and a willingness to explore new places. I would also like to offer my own friendship and someone you can always call when you're in my part of the world.

I'm also bit of a trivia fanatic - so I have lots of random, and often useless, facts to offer and always make for interesting conversation at the least.
