About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To do daily what was impossible a mere century ago.

ABOUT ME

The past ten years have been dedicated to creating an interesting, rewarding and comfortable life for myself here in Los Angeles. A few months ago, though, I realized that winning the LA rat-race really wasn't what I wanted for my future, so I've turned my mind back to passions from my youth: People, places, language, photography, philosophy and making things with my hands.

Professionally, I straddle the line between a suit and a geek. Specifically, I manage a team of developers and architect systems for a boutique tech consultancy near LAX. I enjoy working in tech, and have been heavily involved in the information security scene on the west coast for the past ten years or so.

Personally, I've found a great home in the community surrounding Burning Man and it has inspired a lot of wonderful projects and experiences. I love taking pictures, haphazardly costuming, making steampunk-y jewelry and dancing with varying levels of success.

PHILOSOPHY

Life if amazing, beautiful and statistically so improbable that we're almost ethically compelled to do as much with it as possible. Be amazing - there are more than enough people playing it safe and providing a good baseline to deviate from.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

For the next year, I plan to open my home to surfers from around the world. Being close to LAX and the beach (and an easy shot to Union Station) seems to make it a natural fit for hosting travelers.

Next year, my own little journey begins and I'll be spending about half a year traveling in southeast Asia before returning and doing a road-trip across the United States. Plans are still in the formative process, but I hope to make contacts here that will enable and enrich my travels.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Only brief stints hosting or being hosted by friends. The community-based approach to couch surfing is new to me, but seems like an excellent way to bring people from different areas of the world and walks of life together.

Interests

Photography, Music (multi-genre), technology (particularly CS and IT), motorcycling, driving too fast in the canyons, the ongoing search for the perfect salt and vinegar potato chip.
