Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

You are welcome to spend some time with us as you please. I live with two other girls who are also couchsurfer hosts. We often have dinner and party together, you are welcome to join us or do your own thing.

Interests

On the weekends I love branching out and meeting new people. Canberra can seem like a small world sometimes, so having fresh minds and ideas is very refreshing.

I usually spent my free time motorbiking, cycling and seeing live bands play.

We don't always have the greatest variety of live music in Canberra but I like to dance to funk/soul music, rock and metal. My music tastes are quite broad - from Xavier Rudd to Nightwish to Manu Chao.

My other interests include discussing social development issues, arthouse cinema and martial arts.

Music, Movies, and Books

When travelling Myanmar I was reading Dawe Aung San Suu Kyi's book "Letters from Burma". It's a must-read for anyone travelling to the country. It was a brilliant conversation starter with the local people because the people love their leader Dawe Aung San.

I also love reading personal stories written by Indigenous Australian people, they tell stories mostly untold in mainstream literature.

Music - funk/soul, rock, and Austrralian. Some Australian favourites are Xavier Rudd, John Butler Trio, the Cat Empire, Emma Donovan, Blue King Brown and plenty more.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

In 2013 I went to East Arnhem land and visited remote Aboriginal communities. I spent time taking to community members and visiting the schools. It was very inspiring to the vast cultural difference between the city life and remote Australia. The people were inspiring too!

This year I spent three weeks travelling in Myanmar, visiting rural villages and distributing school books to the village children. I loved meeting Myanmar people because they never stop smiling and welcome you with open hearts.
