ABOUT ME
i am currently a full-time grad student at the UA in tucson, az. i am working on a 'graduate certificate' in gender and women's studies. i hope to be starting full-time in a master's program in fall 2010... i am still waiting to hear back from the schools i applied to (fingers crossed!). this semester i am doing an independent study that is looking at transnational capitalism and neoliberal state policies in relation to sexualized/gender violence and the feminization of labor on the US/Mexico border. i have a long personal history of volunteer work. last year i was an Americorps volunteer for a nonprofit feminist press here in tucson where i was a program coordinator for an after-school program for high school girls to workshop their writing. for over a year now, i have been an active member in tucson's Read Between the Bars, a nonhierarchical collective that sends books to prisoners (for free) in the state of az. i am also a project assistant for an LGBT Oral Histories project.
i work part-time for Tucson Unified School District as a support staff for students who have developmental disabilities. i play on two coed recreational soccer teams, one indoor soccer team and one outdoor soccer team. we play for the love and fun of the game on the weekends. i have one dog and two cats, and my lovely type 1 diabetic sister (my best friend). okay well i think that sums it up!
