About Me

CURRENT MISSION

I just want to play music. I'm not all super into the couch-crashing lifestyle. In fact, I strongly dislike having to rely on total strangers like that. I guess its a necesity though, if you're trying to move around the country or globe.

ABOUT ME

Peace, Love, and Good Karma.

Note: I'm waiting on a new credit card to get fully verified. Should be through in a few days.

Link to my myspace page with some of my songs on it. Note: this is under the pen name Richard Rose, but thats me alright. Generally speaking I try to keep my art and my personal life separate, but for the purposes of this website, I definately want you to be able to hear the music.

VIDEO CLIP OF ME PERFORMING LIVE IN PORTLAND OREGON
First things first, no photo but I have a VIDEO of one of my performances in Portland Oregon last year. Not the most amazing performance but it should give a nice feel for what I'm about.

I am just a musician who likes to travel. Everyone told me I have to pimp up my profile on here to get couch crashes. I feel like I'm on myspace trying to score a date.
Here's the real deal with me. I'm 24 years old, an experienced traveler, and I know how to do chores. I have positive references including parents, grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, family, bosses, teachers, and peers. I have many references from people and bands I have stayed with. The most of my couch crashing time has been in band houses.

I PAY RENT in one way or another for every night I stay anywhere. I WASH DISHES, SCRUB FLOORS, SINKS, TUBS, TOILETS. I like to live clean and healthy. I DO NOT STEAL OR FIGHT EVER! I have way too much to lose and was raised way better than that. Like I said, I can give you crazy numbers of references.

If I sound like your kind of couch crash, I would love to hear from you.

I'm just getting the hang of this thing and its going very well. The people I've met through this site so far are absolutely cool as cucumbers!

PHILOSOPHY

I am an artist because I believe that I have had amazing life experiences that are so complex in nature they can only be described as a feeling or an emotion as through art. They cannot be easily described in concrete mathematical or scientific terms, although I'll try if you ask.

I believe in magic. Sorta. I believe that there is a scientific explanation for everything but that the world is a lot more complicated than we can comprehend so science falls short on description of many natural phenomenon. That is where religion, art, and 'magic' come into play. For instance, one current modern theory of universal forces is called "unification theory". It describes how the motion of subatomic charges at super-fast speeds creates magnetic fields which pull the molecules together causing the effect known as gravity. It furthermore describes how the entire universe is simply a network of positive and negative charges with no such thing as actual matter (only space that is impassable because of fast moving electromagnetic fields).
This complicated scientific theory can, however, be described simply as, for instance, "There is only one universe and it is all interrelated" and "this is all just a dream"

Obi Wan says it best when he says "The Force is the energy which permeates the universe, binding us together" or something like that

My main philosophical point, I guess would be that you need all aspects of learning to form full coherent ideas on the true nature of the fabric of reality.

Also human beings are just very intelligent animals. We're so wicked lucky that we can understand any of this. This is the reason philosophy is important. This is the reason that art is an important and worthwhile venture for all mankind.

Imagine if there was no art... No music, no books, no pictures, no painings, no murals on the wall, no decorations, no jewlery. No unnusual clothing. No stylized cars. No TV, movies, or video games. It'd be like living in a prison camp.

Oh yeah, thats my philosophy:
Art is Life!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I as a young traveling musician have participated not necessarily in this website, but in many other similar things. I have been across this country and back about 10 times in planes, trains, and automobiles. I've hitchhiked and I've caravaned with my band and fifty of our closest friends. I've helped other people get around the country to all the wild destinations they want to go.

I am new to this website, by for me to describe all my participation in the traveling community would take a rather large novel.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Mostly with bands honestly. I play guitar and sing and am very solid at both so I often end up in band houses or studios sleeping on a couch. Often I'll be living in one place and get an invite from a good band to go somewhere new and record and take it. That puts me on couches because I'll take the band's invitation on a whim and end up in their town where I don't know anyone except the band. I usually take restaraunt work if I'm going to be in that place more than a minute, but of course I usually don't have employment when I arrive because thats not how restaraunt hiring works.

Interests

Music music music music and music. I also like skiing, swimming (I REAAALLLY wanna learn to surf), biking, basketball, baseball, soccer, football, hockey, lacrosse, movies, TV (CARTOONS!), The Grateful Dead, The Clash, and The Rolling Stones. I like cars, boats, planes, tranes, subways, motorcycles, computers, digital graphics, web design, filmography, painting, drawing, computer programming, engineering, science (physics specialty but I can hold my own in any subject) cooking, cleaning, vegetarianism (I'll get down with whatever the romans do in rome tho... its a health thing not so much a personal issue). For some reason the natural beauty of the West Coast always gets me into photography. I like darts, billiards, bowling, and shuffleboard. I like camping, hiking, kayaking, canoeing, diving, and being in the mountains in general. I like big cities with busy intersections filled with people from all over the world. I like manhatten, san fransisco, denver, new orleans, boston, seattle, portland, LA, and Toronto. Oh and I like most of the other cities and towns too. Except the ones that are ridiculously boring. As long as there's good company and something to do I'm pretty happy. Lemme think, did I leave anything out. I like animals (dogs, cats, horses, cows, pigs, ferrets, mice, birds, fish, turtles, snakes, monkeys, elephants, and even bugs (not the kind that drink your blood though, Im not as big a fan of those). I'm pretty sure I like the new i-phone although I need to play with it more to be sure. I like all the members of the plant kingdom except poison ivy. I like campfires and I like manmade heat although I'd rather save power so you'd never ever catch me changing the thermostat up in the winter or down in the summer.

I LOVE running water! Maybe what I like most of all is electricity because it allows me to use my amplifier (which I am always respectful in use of). It just sounds so much prettier than an accoustic alone. That and electric lighting and heating and cooking and fridges and telephones and computer are all pretty neato!

I could go on forever. People sometimes say I'm too positive, but thats not possible. I mean, I like being grumpy sometimes, when there's good humor to be had in it, but I REALLY like making people laugh smile and feel more together.

Music, Movies, and Books

hah, I dont have the time!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Hahahaha, Once again, I do NOT have the time

Teach, Learn, Share

"Always a student, always a teacher." -My old mentor

"Just as I do not seek to be a slave, I also do not seek to be a master" -Dali Llama

"Be the change that you hope to see in the world." -Mahatmas Ghandi

I promise you (cross my heart and hope to die) that I can teach you and/or your friends and family rocket science, astrophysics, neuropsychology, music, physics, chemistry, biology, sports, games, oh wait I could teach you anything I know! Don't know anything about brain surgery though, its just too risky to try at home.

The great thing about the modern era is that almost everyone has some basic education or useful information on all these topics, so you can also teach me all the above subjects and anything else you know.

I'm currently trying to expand on my carpentry skills.
