About Me
2024 — accepting only guests vaccinated against Covid-19
We are a married gay male couple, retired since 2008 in Zamora, Michoacán, Mexico, with friend Jon and 4 friendly cats (4-9 years).
2-legged inhabitants are vaccinated.
Zamora is a town of 140,000 in Mexico's south/west central highlands.
= 120 miles (175 km) to Guadalajara (Jalisco) or Morelia (Michoacán state capital).
Both easily reached by frequent, comfortable 2.5 hour bus
= 280 miles (450 km) to Mexico City, via frequent, comfortable 6-hour bus
= Elevation = 5100 feet (1700 meters)
= Weather is mild. No heating or AC needed.
= We wear shorts and t-shirts year round. A jacket for cool evenings is sufficient.
Our House:
= Large and comfortable. Lots of space, sun, and breezes
= Guest rooms with shared bathroom
= Colonia Jardinadas, near Centro / 4 blocks to mercado with fresh, cheap food
= Zocalo (“town square”) is 5 blocks, with shady benches, bandstand, art events
= Sanctuario has fun stained glass and a pipe organ from another galaxy!
= Warm winter mornings for coffee in the garden
= 15 km to National Park Lago Camecuaro
= We travel frequently, so guest-readiness varies. Someone is always at home
= We can usually accommodate visitors
= Warning - Couchsurfers often stay longer than they planned!
= We host only fully-vaccinated travelers until the Covid-19 pandemic is calmer
= We look forward to healthier days and welcoming you amazing world explorers
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
We like to travel.
One of us has lived in Toronto, Vancouver, London, Madrid, and Paris.
One of us has lived in Detroit, Nashville, Minneapolis, and San Francisco.
One of us hitchhiked across the US many times, long ago, and still likes the idea people should trust one another, should honor that trust, and should laugh together. A lot.
One of us is a skilled multiple-instrument musician.
One of us doesn't have a musical bone in his body, but why should that stop the singing?
Two of us are creative and excellent cooks — Jon and Rikk are wizards in the kitchen.
One of us is extremely happy that the other 2 of us are creative and excellent cooks.
One of us walked across the U.S. (Los Angeles - Washington, DC) in 1986 as part of a peace march working for end to nuclear weapons.
Our home is a happy place, with lots of laughter and goofy cats.
Friends drop by frequently.
Zamora is not widely known.
We are "off the beaten path," but many guests and friends find us somehow.
We hope to meet you someday.

Music, Movies, and Books
Many.
Hey, we're old guys - lists of our favorite music, movies, and books would go on and on...if we could remember them.
Rikk prefers classical and operatic music. Mozart. Bach. Edita Gruberova.
Jon likes loud dance music, weird US 70s disco, Latin stuff I can't begin to describe.
Gary likes a wide variety of stuff nobody else understands. Janis Ian. The Roches. Avicii. Phoebe Snow. Alison Krauss. Pet Shop Boys. George Michael. Nanci Griffith. Ella Fitzgerald. Billie Holiday. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard.
We have more movies than we'll ever be able to watch.
There's an older 24" iMac available for guest use.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
Walked across the United States (3700 miles) March - November, 1986 as part of the Great Peace March for Global Nuclear Disarmament (GPM).
March 1, 2024 will be the 38th anniversary of start of the GPM in Los Angeles, California.
November 15, 2023 was the 37th anniversary of arrival of the GPM in Washington, DC.
Teach, Learn, Share
Please teach us, help us learn! We may not remember it, but the effort is appreciated!
We hope to be never too old to learn.
Rikk will likely mend your clothes and give you the best haircut you've ever had.
Jon is shy, but worth seeking out, especially when he is cooking.
We usually welcome guests to join us for dinner.
Gary will talk your ear off and want to hear tales of your life and travels.
So will Rikk, but he is more subtle about it.
What I Can Share with Hosts
Appreciation, friendship, laughter, assistance with chores, expenses.
Gary is the only one who has been hosted by Couchsurfers.
He's a helpful, handy kind of guy.
With adequate care and supervision, he can perform simple tasks.
