About Me

CURRENT MISSION

find the perfect cappuccino and drink really good beer!!

ABOUT ME

Words I live by: "If we do nothing- nothing changes"

Hard working, easy going, on a mission to simplify my life...it's harder than I thought it would be!! Breaking the bonds of the "comfort trap", aka security, are proving to be most difficult. But I am closer now than I have ever been thanks to my many CS friends and experiences.

*UPDATE- Dec '09 I quit my job, sold most of my possessions and began traveling.

**UPDATE II- July '10 and back in the states(for the moment), refreshed and on a new debt free path! I plan on traveling and working here and there in what ever part of the world I find myself.

Excerpts from Sterling Hayden's "The Wanderer":

"They are enmeshed in the cancerous discipline of security. And in the worship of security we fling our lives beneath the wheels of routine-and before we know it, our lives are gone"

"But we are brainwashed by our economic system until we end up in a tomb beneath a pyramid of time payments, mortgages, preposterous gadgetry, play things that divert our attention for the sheer idiocy of the charade. The years thunder by, the dreams of youth grow dim where they lie caked in the dust on the shelves of patience. Before we know it, the tomb is sealed"

PHILOSOPHY

I think behaving with integrity, living honestly and being open to the moment are the keys to being happy.

Quotes from Antoine de Saint-Exupery:
" It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What's essential is invisible to the eye."

"A goal without a plan is just a wish"

"He who would travel happily must travel light"

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I host as often as I can along with throwing an occasional CS party. I also play tour guide or just meet for drinks/dinner in an effort to take advantage of every opportunity to meet new people! And I never stop spreading the CS word, praise be!!

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have couch surfed in the States, Europe and Africa. I learned a great deal about hosting and at the same time got to experience different cultures and cities through the eyes of my hosts and their friends and families.

Book: Too Soon Old, Too Late Smart

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Indulged in a boyhood dream of being a cowboy and at age 30 sold everything I owned, bought a pickup truck and drove to west Texas, drove in a 300 mile radius for 3 days knocking on ranch doors until I got a job on a 400,000 acre ranch. Stayed for 3 years and the most amazing experience I had was galloping all alone next to a wild buffalo from a neighboring ranch during roundup. I was briefly transported back to the 1870's! Cornie, I know......
