About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Getting to know Philly better!

ABOUT ME

I'm an MSW student at Temple, working on a career change. I play guitar and had a band for a while, but it's pretty kaput now (I won't make you listen to it!) I really miss traveling more, in my 20s I was in Europe for a few years, and also lived in Senegal. Hoping to restart some of that.

PHILOSOPHY

Usually I rely on intuition with people, but I'm highly rational when it comes to decisions and philosophies.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

Hoping to meet some cool people, find cheap ways to see more of the world, and see who comes through my area.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I've just started hosting now that I live in an area people actually want to visit, but I used couchsurfing extensively on my last trip to Europe, unfortunately 4 years ago!

Interests

Music, Ableton Live and synth stuff, literature, making new friends in strange places, or strange friends in normal places, going out, staying in, history, post-conflict situations (wrote a thesis on democratization in Bosnia post-war), practicing my French...

Music, Movies, and Books

I suppose I have typically left-of-center tastes, which means only extraordinarily good action movies. I'd say my favorite movie of all time is probably still "La Vie Revée des Anges," an early 90s French movie about two vagabondish girls in a crappy eastern French town.

Music-jazz, classical, indie. My tastes lean toward the poppier kind of indie, with a lot of reverby garage rock (Best Coast, Vivian Girls), very into Los Campesinos, Ra Ra Riot, Loney, Dear, Lali Puna, that sort of thing, also a lot of instrumental weird electronica, and stuff like Tristeza, Album Leaf, etc.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I was teaching English in Bosnia when NATO bombed Serbia in 1998. There were a lot of sonic booms throwing everyone into a panic (they thought the Serbs were throwing artillery at the town again) and a Serbian MiG was shot down about 20 miles north of my town.

Teach, Learn, Share

All kinds! Especially French speakers so I can practice. But really I am very open and enjoy all different types of people.

Countries I’ve Visited

Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Netherlands, Slovenia, Spain

Countries I’ve Lived In

Bosnia and Herzegovina, Senegal, United States
