About Me

The Couchsurfing Journey: From Hosting to Unforgettable Memories!

Hello, adventurous soul!
My name is Maher, and I’d love to share a short story about the joy I find in hosting travelers.

For me, happiness lies in helping others. When I welcome a traveler into my home, I feel like I’m traveling with them — through their stories, cultures, and unique perspectives. Want to make me happy? Treat my home like your own: open the fridge without asking, make yourself some tea, and act like we’ve been friends for twenty years.

Why Do I Host?

Because Couchsurfing is not just about offering a couch — it’s about cultural exchange, real human connection, and unforgettable memories.

What I Offer as a Host

A Cozy Home: I live with my wife and three kids, and we host whenever time and space allow.

Kitchen Access: You’re welcome to cook — and I’d love to try a dish from your culture if you feel like sharing.

Local Tips: I’ll show you hidden spots no tourist guidebook will mention.

Countryside Tours: If my schedule allows, I’d love to take you out to explore the beauty of the Tunisian countryside.

About My Home

Location: Just 10 minutes from the city center and very close to a metro station.

Neighborhood: Safe, quiet, and friendly — you’ll feel at home.

Lifestyle: I’m a heavy smoker — you’ll often find me with a cigarette in hand. Smoking is totally fine here, but alcohol is strictly not allowed.

Family Note: My wife is a modest, religious woman. I only host male travelers if they are with their wife, or during times when I’m at home and not busy with work.

House Rules (For You As a Guest & Me As a Guest)

You’ll get a house key so you can come and go freely — just respect the space and privacy.

No copy-paste requests — I appreciate genuine, thoughtful messages.

I do not host LGBTQ+ travelers — this is a personal choice and I prefer to be upfront.

No alcohol in the house. Smoking is welcome.

Clear communication is essential — if I can't host, I’ll always reply with a kind message. I expect the same respect when I’m traveling as a guest.

Be transparent — if you (or I) have specific conditions for hosting (length of stay, timing, preferences), it’s best to be honest from the start to avoid surprises.

Even a short message like "Sorry, I’m busy training my cat for the Mars mission" is better than silence!

Mutual respect is key — whether I’m hosting or being hosted, I value honesty, clarity, and good vibes.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

"I'm here on Couchsurfing because life is full of stories waiting to be shared, places worth discovering, and friends I haven’t met yet. I believe the best way to travel is by sharing experiences and those small, memorable moments that make every journey unique. If you're looking for someone who enjoys meaningful conversations and believes laughter is a universal language, that's exactly why I'm here!"

Interests

The Trans-Siberian Railway journey is one of the greatest adventures one can experience, and it is my dream to make it a reality. Imagine departing from Moscow, traveling through vast taiga forests, crossing icy rivers, and stopping in mysterious cities rich with history and diverse cultures until finally reaching Vladivostok after seven days of traversing time and nature. I would sit by the window, watching breathtaking landscapes unfold before me, exchanging stories with travelers from around the world. Most importantly, I hope to have good company—people who share my passion for discovery and adventure, with whom I can laugh, share moments of wonder, and create unforgettable memories. It would be a journey of a lifetime, filled with stories and experiences that will last forever.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

1320 Kilometers, 43 Hours, and an Endless Adventure!

Picture this: an epic train journey starting from Tunis, passing through Annaba and Algiers, and finally reaching Oran—covering a staggering 1320 kilometers of stunning landscapes, diverse faces, and countless untold stories. On the way there, I took my time, spending a night in each city, savoring every stop like a connoisseur piecing together a masterpiece.

The return trip, however? Oh, that was an entirely different ballgame! 43 hours of nonstop train travel, with just an hour at each city to switch trains. It all began with a slightly dramatic train breakdown in Oran, leaving me racing against time to catch the Algiers train—making it with just 10 minutes to spare! But as they say, good stories start with a bit of chaos, and this one was no exception.

The Algiers train turned out to be the highlight of the journey, thanks to the incredible company I found on board. Conversations flowed effortlessly, laughter echoed through the cabin, and suddenly, the long hours didn’t seem so daunting. It felt like traveling with old friends, even though we had just met.

And then came the final leg: the Tunis train. There, I crossed paths with a group of Mauritanian friends, and let me tell you, the stories we shared could’ve filled an entire book. We talked about everything from culture to dreams, all while the train chugged along, proving that travel isn’t just about the destination—it’s about the connections you make along the way.

This journey was a whirlwind of challenges, laughter, and unforgettable moments. I’m already planning to do it all over again—and maybe even push the boundaries a little further next time. After all, isn’t that what travel is all about? The chaos, the adventure, and the stories that live on long after the journey ends?
