HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

You can see Vietnamese map on my Photo. This map is for tourist including many interesting and famous places. Do not to be greedy to try to travel all places if you spend just few days to travel Vietnam.
If you have just 1 week, let go to Halong, Hanoi, Hue, Nha Trang, Sai Gon. Of couse if you have more, let enjoy as much as you can:X

At first, after I accept any request of Couch surfing, I enjooy helping whoever travelling around Vietnam. To be honest, I just want to spend my knowledge to help you. Don't get any profit or any money from what I do for CS because my company just provides luxury private tour. However, if you want to book high quality private tours, let take a look at our website.
Now, I will introduce some attractions at each place, the best way to travel and some cheap tours with price as well.(I will write the name of destination in both English and Vietnamese so it would be easier for you to find them if you travel by your own way)
If you have any request or problem, let send email to thanhhang34@gmail.com or my CS message box. I am always free to help you.
I. Sapa: North of Vietnam, 375km from Hanoi, 4 seasons in a days
* Attraction:
1. Sapa town (thi tran Sapa) commix European architecture and culture of Vietnamese minority ethnic
2. Hoang Lien Son Range of Mountain ( day nui Hoang Lien Son)including Fanxipang -highest mountain in Vietnam
3. Ham Rong flower park (vuon hoa Ham Rong) romantic place with various kind of flowers
4. Silver waterfall (Thac Bac) fanciful and grandiose
5. Ancient church (Nha Tho co)
6. Bac Ha market (Cho Bac Ha)
7. Love market (Cho Tinh) every weekend
8. Various festivals around a year: Xa Pho (in March), Nao Cong (in August), Tet dancing (Tet holiday- February), Nhan Song, Gau Tau (Tet Holiday), Roong Pooc (Tet Holiday),...
* The ways to travel:
1. The easiest way is booking a tour in Hanoi. Normally from about 29$ to 39$ (up to days you travel)
They will offer many kind of tours, for example trekking and classic
Based on my experience, trekking is the most wonderful trip I have ever enjoyed. You can walk whole day visiting ethnic minority's village, . Moreover, sleeping in their traditional house will be special memory. Perhaps, your tour guide can be chosen from a local people, such as Mong or Thai (of course their English is nice)
2. If you would like to enjoy by your own way, you can hire a motorbike or a bike in Hanoi (normally 5-12$Per one). That is not too difficult to travel in Sapa on your own way because the tourism there is very developed since there are many people who speak fluently English
* Note:
1. Wear shoes (never high shoes or boots), normal clothes (no dress), broad-brimmed hat,
2. Be careful with souvenir, for example silver jewelry, ginseng, wine,..because they can be false. Le task some Vietnamese people help you buy presents to make sure you can buy every thing with reasonable price
3. If you have car-sick, let take medical bath, just only 50 000 VND per time.
4. Map

II. Ha Long: North East of Vietnam, 170km far from Hanoi, including 1960 islands.
* Attraction:
1. Bai Tu Long Bay ( Vinh Bai Tu Long) on the East North
2. Cat Ba Islands (quan dao Cat Ba)
3. Lan Ha Bay (Vinh Lan Ha) on the East South
4. Plenty of unique and magnificent caves and islets: Thunderstruck (Sung Sot), Celestial Palace (Thien Cung), Dau Go, Maiden (Trinh Nữ), Tiên Long, Three Caves (Ba Hang), Luồn, Fairy (Trinh Nu), Three Palaces (Tam Cung), Castle (Lâu Đài), Three Cellars (Ba Hầm), Willow (Bo Nau), Hanh Cave,...
I am not sure about the name in English, just translate from Vietnamese
5. Large number of limestone and schist islands: Toad (Con Coc), Couple (Trong Mai), Ngoc Vung, Titop, Tuan Chau,...
6. Beautiful beach: Bai Chay
6. Many interesting activities, for example: Kayark, fishing, snorkeling and scuba diving, dying and enjoy range of colorful coral,...
* The way to travel:
1. The best way is booking a tour because majority places in Halong are located on beach. Therefore, you will have to face with many problems. Moreover, the tour normally will offer the accommodation on boat so the Ha Long sunset and peaceful night is unforgettable. The tour costs between 42$ and 60$ (up to the days and quality of accommodation)
2. I never travel Halong by my self so nothing to say. However, in my opinion, it is difficult to head your own way because even now, Vietnamese governments and geographers still do not count all of caves, islet and islands in Halong.
* Note:
1. Bring bikini in order you want to swim or kayark
2. Cameral unless you will regret losing wonderful memory and landscape.
3. Halong is a famous for tourist so be careful with price. Every thing can be offered without its real quality.
4. You should travel in the middle of the week in order to have booked rooms in hotels or guest house. Normally Halong is crowed of tourist including both foreign and Vietnamese at the weekend.
5. From October to March, it's autum and winter in Halong so let thinks carefully if you want to swim in temperature of 18 degree cencious (or 22 if you are lucky)

III, HANOI: Capital

1. Hoan Kiem Lake, The Huc bridge, Ngoc Son Temple (From 8 am to 5.30 PM every day)
2. Many ancient architect and French stylish: Old church, Large Opera
3. Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum ( you can go inside on the morning every day except Monday and Friday)
4. Museums: Ho Chi Minh, Ethnological museum, Art,....
5. Market: Dong Xuan (The most famous market in Hanoi, They are both wholesale and retail everything, mainly wholesale), Buoi (flower market), Student market (cheap and usually open at night),...
6. Pagoda and temple (nearly 50 places): Lang (Chua Lang), Quan Hoa(Kham Thien), Tran Quoc, Ha (Chua Ha), Boc (Chua Boc),...
7. Festival: Tet holiday (largest holiday), Flower festival (normally on December), Go Dong Da Festival, Phu Do Festival, Trung Thu, ....
8. Restaurant: various places (both expensive and cheap), normally Cau Go offer many traditional dishes but the price is more expensive than normal. If you want to try as much dishes as you can with reasonable price, you should find some local guide or Vietnamese friends to help you. One experience is going to places they sell food or drinks on stress side. Let choose the places have a lot of guest. Even though they look a bit dirty and informal, you can understand both taste and culture of Vietnamese people.

* The way to travel:
1. Booking tour or travel by your self are the same. You can hire a motorbike or a bike and with a map, that is no problem to enjoy Hanoi by your self. However, let be carful with traffic in Hanoi, in particular when you go across, there is no rule:D. The public transport here is not good but if you are good at seeing map, you can travel by bus (they will work from 5am to 9.30pm) Hanoi is not too big so it just takes 2 days to travelling all the city. Normally just 1 day is enough.
2. Booking tour is another way. 1 day tour costs USD per person. Not too expensive and you can just enjoy Hanoi following a local guide (perhaps me:D)

* Note:
1. You can buy any souvenirs in Dong Xuan market but the price will be high if you buy by your self. Let ask some Vietnamese friend to purchase for you.
2. Public transport is just Bus. It works from 5am to 9.30pm. Taxi is a bit expensive but convenient for group people , you can hire a motorbike taxi if you travel alone.

III. HA GIANG: North East of Vietnam, perfect place for adventure tour, for example: climbing, biking and trekking.
* Attraction:
1. Caves: Phuong Thien (7km south of HG town), Chui (near Phuong Thien), Tien (including both caves and river, 2km from HG town), En (60 km from HG town),...
2. Dong Van (a district of Ha Giang): Cong troi (gate of sky), Lung Cu (the northeast of Vietnam)
3. Quan Ba valley, Meo Vac stone mountain, Vuong villa (Includes various special and unique of traditional architects)
4. Khau Vai love market: 1 time a year on 27. Mar (follow moon calendar). A romantic love story between a couple who could not get married created this market (if you want to imagine this story, let visit the market and listen to the local people)
5. Many historical vestiges: Sung Khanh pagoda (9km south h of Ha Giang town), Ky Dai (center of Ha Giang town),...
6. Festival: LO LO (occur in 2 days), Spring (H'mong and Dao minorities, occur 3-7 days), Long Tong (go to farm and wish an abundant year), Ta Va pagoda festival (in Lang Son), Thach Long pagoda festival (in Cao Ky), ....

* The way to travel:
1. The best way is hiring a motorbike or a bike and create tour following all the attraction in Ha Giang. The way is a bit far so you need a transport for easy going. However, if you have time and like walking, that is perfect to send 1 week trekking around Ha Giang. The occult and beginning beauty will let you forget all trouble and tired. Moreover, the fresh air and simple
Life there will charge more energy for you to continue discovering Hagiang
2. Of course you are not good at finding road and do not know local language, let book a tour. There are many cheap tours but provides various kinds to travel: hiking, trekking, climbing and riding. You still can travel by your self with a tour guide showing right way to go.

* Note:
1. There are many cheap and clean hotel in Ha Giang. However, you should call before come in order to make sure place to rest.
2. Dont hope to stay in a luxury 5 * hotel in Ha Giang, it is impossible. However, let live simply and normally like the people and landscape there. It will be an unforgettable memory.
3. If you travel in Tet holiday, let bring food because perhaps all the market and restaurant there close for preparing the biggest holiday.
4. If you choose trekking in Ha Giang, remember to prepare enough water, food and sleep bag in case you can not reach the town or nay house in the way walking.

V. NINH BINH: On the south east of Hanoi
* Attraction:
1. Historical and Cultural Travel
- Hoa Lu Old Capital with 47 vestiges
- Bai Dinh Pagoda: 5 main buildings located in mountain
- Phat Diem church: 9 churches with unique and special architects because of the combination tradition and modern.
- vestiges of Revolution: Ha Nam Ninh,...
- Vestiges of religion: Bich dong pagoda, Ban Long pagoda, ....
2. Environment Travel:
- Cuc Phuong National Park: famous for plenty kind of animals and plants, in particular trees 1000 year olds.

- Tam Coc- Bich Dong: mainly travel on river and visit caves and vestiges.
- Various natural lakes and caves: Ky Lan, Dong Chuong, Yen Thag,...(lakes); Ngoc My Nhan, Van Trinh, Ma Tien,... (caves)

* The way to travel:
1. If you want to travel by your self, you should prepare transport, such us bike and motorbike. Moreover, the best way is read a bit about places you will visit and set up a detail itinerary before traveling. There are 2 reasons that you shouldn't walking around there. Firstly, the attractions there are a bit far from the others and far from the main road. Secondly, there is just a few people there can speak English so that is very difficult when you get lost.
2. In my opinion, the easiest way is booking a tour, 1 or 2 days are both interesting. Therefore, you do not worry about itinerary, just enjoy the trip and landscape.

* Note:
1. Hat, water, money:D
2. Transport, map (if you travel by your own way)
