About Me

CURRENT MISSION

making this world a better place through good design

ABOUT ME

I was born in Vicenza, a small city in Italy. Here I grew up, then in 1992 I moved to Padova, a city not far from Vicenza. I studied Industrial Design in Venice, and then I moved to Milan to get a masters degree in industrial design. Now I come back to Padova, but since I'm an international freelance designer I live often in foreign cities.

Designing the future is my mission, so I need to be continuously stimulated. That's why I'm a CouchSurfer: because travelling is good but it is not enough, the REAL deal is to share life experiences.

Designing products is the way I prefer to express myself: you can see my own projects at www.smid.it .
I also like to compose music: in the past I used to compose music exclusively by software synthesizers, now I'm learning to play electric guitar.

PHILOSOPHY

I'm an happy guy, I'm optimist about the future since I believe that every people have a huge potential inside themselves: with my design projects I'm trying to cause the release of this good power.

I think the only way that our society has to really evolve itself is developing social relations: only augmenting confidence between each others we could start solving big problems that are threatening our happiness.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

When I was living in Milan I hosted a lot of people, and it was always super funny! Actually, I can only be a tourist guide in Padova, especially focused on the city center and graffiti.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Not so much, but good: the first, beautiful, in Copenhagen: I've been there for the Design Week.
The second one in Berlin: great experience!
Third one: all around the middle of Italy, where I've seen we Italians are beautiful people!

Interests

Design (product, graphic, sustainable), architecture, music, contemporary art, music videos, riding my bike, travelling to understand this weird planet called Earth...

Hall of fame:

Contemporary artists: Banksy, Damien Hirst, DAIM, Blu.
Architecture studios: UNStudio, MVRDV, BIG, OMA.
Designers: Dieter Rams, Neil Poulton, Naoto Fukasawa, Ross Lovegrove, James Dyson.

Music, Movies, and Books

About music, what can I say? For me it's one of the most important forms of art and communication, it's the main energy when I'm designing, and not only.

Most favourite music artists: Chopin, Einaudi, Jarrett, Davis, Eno, Aphex Twin, Tim Hecker, Moderat, Boards of Canada, Richie Hawtin, Depeche Mode, Soulwax, Muse, Weezer, Nirvana, Metallica, SOAD...

My favourite movies: Matrix, Star Wars, Blade Runner, 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, Fight Club, The Holy Mountain, Once Upon a Time in America, Forrest Gump, Train Spotting, The Snatch, The Network, Samsara (2011).

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I've infused courage to live in freedom and without many fears in some friends. It has been like releasing a trapped beautiful butterfly: now everybody can see the beauty of its colors.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can be useful with anything that passes through a personal computer (music, video, images, 3d modelling), and I know a lot of stories about music bands, products and designers.

It seems I'm a good chef too.

I think I could learn everything from everyone, I believe in continuous evolution.
