Dear friends, after a wide experience with hosts/surfers I would like to share something I have learnt, hope this helps you as it helped me:

1. CS is NOT a dating site.
Please preserve CS spirit by behaving properly and sharing everything you want with your host/guest, without expecting something back.

2. CS is a community where people meet.
If you are not willing to know the person who is hosting you/surfing at yours and feeling "smart" to use someone else's house for free, probably CS is not the place for you.

3. CS is a travellers' network.
Ask yourself this before starting your trip: am I a traveller or a tourist? Am I ready to allow someone else to enter my life and be part of my (life) journey? If you expect standard relationships between people, an hotel service and you just want to visit a place to take selfies next to monuments and post them on your IG, you may book a hostel and make many friends there.

4. RESPECT.
You don't know anything about the life of the stranger standing in front of you. Practice empathy and try to get in connection with him/her, don't judge, don't expect to be right all the time. Accept the differences, stay in peace.

I've traveled across Europe (Italy, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Czech Rep, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Slovenia.... and San Marino!) by motorcycle alone, for almost 2 months... The best trip I've ever made!
