About Me

I am a 28 year old queer art lover who works at an art school. I currently live in San Francisco, CA. I love knitting, collage, movies, music, reading, listening to body scan meditations on my phone, and watering my plants. Overall, I'm a chill person, a little bit of a homebody, but I love to travel and make new friends.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on a mission to experience the great things this world has to offer and to me that means traveling, meeting new people, and having new, potentially unexpected and adventuresome experiences. However, working at an art school means I don't have a giant budget for travel. Couchsurfing is my solution.

Interests

I am very interested in these topics:
-sustainability and creating new ways to live that are better for the Earth
-art making, especially video, installation, performance art, and painting
-cooking/baking
-Feminism and Queer Theory

I'm periferally interested in these topics:
-Ceramics
-crafts like knitting, collage, sewing things on other things
-mortality and death (i just learned about Death Cafes and I want to know more... way more!)
-DBT and mindfulness practices
-animals - love 'em!

Music, Movies, and Books

I like a large variety of music but I love music that's offbeat, avant guarde, experimental, soulful, raw, or political. I like Riot Grrrl, Diamanda Galas, the Smiths, Sun Ra, the Melvins, Them Are Us Too... so you see it really depends on my mood.

My favorite films are often in the horror or sci-fi genres. Love Stanly Kubrick and Alfred Hitchcock. Some other film I like Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Let the Right One In, The Exorcist, Born In Flames (probably my favorite movie ever), Liquid Sky, Wetlands.

The books I read are often big coffee table art books but I like Oscar Wilde, Jeffrey Eugenides, Kurt Vonnegut, and lots and lots and lots of Queer and feminist theory. Also, Nevada by Imogen Binnie changed my life.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

Honestly, I haven't done anything amazing. The biggest thing is probably moving across the country from little old Virginia to the beautiful city of San Francisco to pursue an Art degree. I majored in New Genres i.e video and performance art. It was during that time that I found myself piercing my own belly button, covering myself in cherry pie filling, and getting into a fist fight with a can of Crisco in front of a crowd of people.

Teach, Learn, Share

I could teach how to grow potted plants from seeds, organize all your stuff and pair down, sewing, making patches, collaging, and cooking.

There is so much I'd like to learn including silkscreening from a photograph, weaving, new recipes, building a multi-level indoor garden, building a house, raising chickens, making ceramic objects, and putting sequins on things.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can share a positive outlook on life and a willingness to go with the flow. New skills in crafting and art projects. Help with organization and creating better systems to simplify your life. I'm really handy as well so if you need help putting together IKEA furniture, building a loft, hammering nails, using a drill or saw, I'm down.
