About Me

CURRENT MISSION

To come up with a better answer for the "Amazing Thing Doing/Seen" question below

ABOUT ME

I'm a pretty friendly, sociable guy. I like traveling and reading. I'm the sort to teach myself dead languages or read extremely dense books on vacations for the fun of it.
I enjoy new experiences and trying to take in as much as I can while I'm young and relatively responsibility-free.
I'm planning to go back to school after a couple years traveling and get my PhD. For now, I just want to see as many places and meet as many people as I can.

PHILOSOPHY

I think life is for the struggle to understand and improve. At a young age, I was very influenced by the incidental discovery of Albert Camus and his opinions remain very deeply ingrained in my thinking. Despite a perhaps ultimate inability to create true connections, attain wisdom and definite knowledge, or improve the overall condition of others in a very long-term view, it's our natural desire and purpose to make the attempt all the same.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING

I'm new to couchsurfing, so I've only participated insofar as I've filled out a profile. I'm hoping to begin hosting travelers wherever I might end up in the next few years.

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

As mentioned above, this is my first attempts at couchsurfing. I've heard only good things from those who already participate, so I'm excited to try it out now.

Interests

I'm interested in old books, long talks over obscure but intensely debated points that go on late into the night, picking up languages that do me no good in the real world, and planning trips to places I never dreamed I'd go growing up in a small town in the Midwest.

Music, Movies, and Books

I indulge in all three media too much to give an exhaustive list of favorites, but a few of each:
Movies - Anything by Woody Allen up until the early '90s, Eternal Sunshine, Lost in Translation, Casablanca, classic films I happen to catch on TV
Music - Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Josh Ritter, Iron & Wine, Frightened Rabbit, Ryan Adams
Books - The Brothers Karamazov, Anna Karenina, The Sun Also Rises, Ulysses, The Sound and the Fury, The Power and the Glory, The Plague, Hamlet, Waiting for Godot

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

A baboon once stole my lunch off the table in front of me in Kenya while a little boy chased him with a stick. I'll never forgive that baboon.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share a knowledge of relatively useless ancient language knowledge and rattle on for ages about classic books, religions, and history.
I can also teach you to make instant coffee.

Countries I’ve Visited

Egypt, Kenya, Spain

Countries I’ve Lived In

South Korea, United Kingdom, United States
