About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Contributing to an International Community

ABOUT ME

I am a creative person with a Bachelor's in Art and English. I spend my free time crafting new things out of recycled materials, applying to law school, and volunteering for Amnesty International. I am a heavy advocate of environmentalism, fair trade, and sustainability.

I hope to get into law school this Fall, so that I might study International Law. Eventually, I'd like to develop fair-trade legislation for the United States.

PHILOSOPHY

“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.” - Buddha

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

The splits.

Teach, Learn, Share

I don’t believe the answers to our socio-economic problems can be found in the way my parent’s generation found them. Picketing, which was effective in the 60s and 70s, no longer holds the same weight. I would also argue that, just because our generation is not marching en masse against an injustice does not mean we are afflicted by some sort of generational laryngitis; it means that the mode by which our parents incited change is not a mode which is effective, or appropriate, today.

As a member of the world’s most powerful global economic power, I would argue that our most effective means of voicing our opinions is as consumers. The weightiness of voting is instilled upon us from a young age, and yet we’re hard-pressed to consider the implications of everyday purchasing decisions: who was it made by, what is it made of, where did it come from, and where will it go, once I am finished with it?
