About Me

CURRENT MISSION

Make it to Cape Town by bicycle!

ABOUT ME

I have lived in Edmonton, Alberta for almost 10 years now, mostly living in shared houses. I studied alternative energy technology, worked as a rock climbing instructor, and recently as a solar installer.

I have spent a lot of time overseas, including a volunteering trip to Fiji, a two year working holiday in Australia, working as a divemaster in Malaysia, backpacking all around Southeast Asia and South Asia, and leading ethical travel and volunteer trips in India.

PHILOSOPHY

I strive to take every opportunity to learn, try, or experience something new, especially if it is difficult, intimidating or risky. I consider my actions carefully to try to ensure that they do not cause any undue harm to others or to the planet. I try to think carefully about everything that I buy and consider what environmental or social impact it might have. I love to travel and seek ways to do so with minimal environmental impact, like bicycle touring!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

I have been hosted around the world and had amazing experiences, met very cool people, and every time has been unique. (Many of these times were through the profiles of others I was travelling with, so I don't have all the references.)

I have hosted couchsurfers a few times in shared houses where I've lived, but not many people travel to my city!

Interests

I always travel with my trusty ukulele, and I have a song book with over 100 songs that I have learned. I usually use a bicycle as my main method of transportation at home, and now as I travel also. I like to make my own beer, cider, and other concoctions. I enjoy vegetarian and vegan food, but I am not strict about it.

Music, Movies, and Books

I like interesting documentaries and artistic films. I like catchy music with a good beat, and anything I can play on the ukulele. when I get a chance to read, I like science fiction/fantasy, and other escapist fiction.

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

I did a volunteer project in fiji for 10 weeks. There I learned to scuba dive, conduct surveys on coral reefs, identify fish, coral, invertebrates, and estimate their sizes underwater. The project camp was on a remote island where there was one small village that we became a part of. I had a fijian family that took me into their home, and the whole village taught us about their culture and ways of life.

Teach, Learn, Share

I can teach ukulele, guitar, and some other instruments to varying degrees.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I can play and sing you songs from my little song book and cook you a delicious breakfast.
