About Me

Hi! I am a graduate architect (at long last!), having just finished a bachelor of architecture here in Sydney. I've decided to take some time off continuing my studies this year - or for longer, who knows where things will take me! - to travel, relax, have fun, meet new people, discover new things. I'm starting off in the United States, then Guatemala, and after that I'm not sure yet!

I have lived in Australia for the past 14 years-ish (it's hard to keep track !) but I grew up in Switzerland, so I speak both French and English. Before studying architecture, I was doing a Bachelor of Arts majoring in anthropology and American studies (weird combo I know)and loved it but never finished it, so I'm thinking I'd like to finish it off one day (but where! I don't know yet!)...and I'd also like to do a Masters of Architecture one day too, so I can become a registered architect ^_^

I've lived in a student housing co-op called Stucco for the last 4.5 years (fun fact: we were the only student housing co-op in Australia until 2012!), so I'm a fan of communal living, self management, sustainable living, affordable housing.

I have been described as a massive chiller; you can often find me sprawled on a couch, in a park, the beach, or on my bed reading a book, doing work, planning, whatever! Don't let that fool you though, I'm also always up for hanging out with others, going on adventures, or trying new thing.

I would describe myself as easy going, down to earth, as having a weird sense of humour in the sense that I LOVE puns; I have a pretty sarcastic sense of humour in that Australian-y way; little things make me laugh; if I'm telling a joke I'll probably laugh at it before it's even finished; I tend to think it's good to be able to laugh at yourself. I'm an open-minded person, I like hiking (though I am by no means a professional hiker), I've been meaning to get myself a professional camera for a while (I like taking photographs), I like having a drink (or a few more!) but only if it's shared with others :), I'm a fairly independent person and am quite happy to do things on my own if need be but I generally tend to think hanging out, socialising, and creating memories with others is funner, nicer. I'd love to build my own house one day (I'm thinking somewhere in the mountains and/or by the beach NEAR mountains!), I hate bananas (yes it's weird), love coffee, cats, dogs, memes, creating, designing...and I think that covers the basics!

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I've been interested in couchsurfing for a while because I think it's such a great idea in terms of meeting new people when (or who are) travelling) and getting to know them, where they come from, their culture, beliefs..

I've been a member of the couchsurfing community for a while now and have met up with couchsurfers on numerous occasions but unfortunately have never hosted or been hosted, so I'm hoping to change that this year!

Interests

Designing, architecture, reading, hiking, coffee, sustainability, reading, photography, cats, memes

Music, Movies, and Books

TV: I don't watch that much tv to be honest (it helps that I don't have one) but in terms of TV shows, I'd flight of the Conchords, summer heights high, ex-PM, the Katering Show...anything with the kind of humour 😋, but also Gilmore Girls, House of Cards, the Fresh Prince of Bel Air, Steven Universe, and documentaries!

One of my favourite authors is Murakami, I loved The Wind Up Bird Chronicles. Also Gael Garcia Marquez, the Book Thief...I can't think of any others right now!

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

living at Stucco has been a fantastic experience; living with people from different walks of life, with different backgrounds, experiences, whom you can learn from, share ideas with, have interesting conversations with, manage your home together.

also:
- I remember visiting Petra in Jordan when I was only around 7 and being totally amazed
- road tripping around country NSW back in 2014
- meeting amazing people on my travels and still keeping in touch with them after many years gone by
- recently my best friend and I organised a fake graduation ceremony because we didn't get to graduate together. The reviews from those who attended the event were fantastic, with many claiming it was the "best graduation I've ever been to " ;)

Teach, Learn, Share

I can share my enthusiasm for sustainable architecture, my love of architects like Glenn Murcutt, Richard Leplastrier. I can share my experience in running a cooperative, I could teach you some French, I'd be happy to learn your favourite recipe because my cooking skills could do with some improving!

I could teach you some architecture-related stuff if it interests you 🙂 eg basic design principles, how to use CAD softwares, laser print, 3D print..

Otherwise I'm keen to share stories and some laughs!

What I Can Share with Hosts

Well I do mention that above but here it is again: I can share my enthusiasm for sustainable architecture, my love of architects like Glenn Murcutt, Richard Leplastrier. I can share my experience in running a cooperative, I could teach you some French, I'd be happy to learn your favourite recipe because my cooking skills could do with some improving!

Also I could tell you all the good/cool things to do in Sydney if you ever visit, things to miss, places to eat, drink, chill out.
