About Me

Hi there, Aloha! My name is Sonia Indigo, I am Portuguese and I live in Varkala since 2012, with my two little daughters with 5 and 7 years.

Professionally I work as a reiki master, astrologer, numerologist, tarot reader, life coach, counselor, aqua-floating therapist and motivational speaker. I am also certified as a yoga teacher, belly dance teacher, massage therapist, massage instructor and sometimes I do oriental/belly dance and yoga original performances.
Besides this, I write articles for magazines and for my blog.

If you feel to check it out, our website is .
My name in social media is Sonia Indigo on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.

My artistic creative skills goes on the writing, singing, free style oriental and belly dance, dance original performances, I love music, photography, both taking photos and posing for creative photo sessions.

I absolutely love horse riding, paragliding, mountain trekking, long walks, bike trips, scuba diving, swimming for an hour on the ocean far across the waves where the sea is calm and there is no one around.

Even though I wouldn't label myself as a vegan nor vegetarian, I do have mainly a vegan and raw food plant based diet, caffeine and white sugar free. As much as possible I avoid all kind of processed foods, doing my best to have wholesome foods.
I don't smoke, don't drink alcohol, no drugs and between August 2018 until April 2019 I got free from the smartphone and used only an analogical Nokia.

I am a yogini, I do yoga, meditation and spiritual practice at a daily basis (or almost :-)) and I normally wake up quite early for that (between 4h, 6ham, depending on the days and mood).

I love to spend time in my home, receive massages and all kind of therapies, I love to spend time in natural reserves or nature places with wild animals, specially mammals and interacting with them.

I love to inspire others with my knowledge, wisdom and experience, live and spend time in places full of Nature, and I absolutely love what I do for a living, I love to teach and inspire people to have better, happier, fulfilled lives.

My daughters, one born in 2012 by cesarean and the other one born in 2014 by natural home birth, no anesthesia.
After separating from their father, I opened up in January 2018 the Shakti Ashram, Healing Center and Academy that I run with the precious help of volunteers, artists and creative people and where I receive volunteers, coachsurfers, clients, students from all over the world.

The place is composed by one house with ground floor, upper floor, roof top and garden. I live with my daughters on the ground floor where I have one guest room. On the upper floor there are 3 rooms to rent and on the roof top is for the yoga hall and the dormitory. All with access to shared kitchen, living room on the 1st floor and wi-fi. All around there is a nice garden. The house is located in a very tranquil area surrounded with tropical nature.

We are located in a Hindu area with several temples. There is Durga and Kali Temple 10 minutes walking from here and a 2000 years old temple to Vishnu 5 minutes by rickshaw.
We call Varkala the Varanasi of the South. I live here since 7 years, and I can assure you, this is a Vortex, an amazing energetic, spiritual powerful place.

There is yoga and Ayurveda everywhere in Varkala. You can benefit from ayurvedic massages and treatments, as well as courses.

There are several beaches along the coast, the main beach, Papanasam Beach is 10 minutes walking from our place, and Black Beach and Oddayam Beach 20 minutes walking and Kappil Beach 1h walking through the cliffs.
On the main beach you can find sun umbrellas, Surf and Body Boards for renting and well as Stand Up Paddling boards.
You can also make a jump with paragliding with a professional from the cliff.

The backwaters are 15 minutes from here by rickshaw and it’s a magical place where you can go on canoe trip to the Golden Island and stop to wash the Sunset in a non-touristic beach.

You can visit early morning time the fisherman’s on the beach and the 2 local vegetable and fish markets, where you can find some organic local fruits and vegetables.

This beach is 20 minutes by rickshaw from here and it’s a gorgeous beach with sea and backwaters. In alternative if you are ready to walk, it's about 1h of amazing walk through the Cliffs where you sea the infinite Arabian Sea, the palm trees and nature, the local people, it's just breathtaking, I highly recommend.

There are the touristic shops on the cliff with all kind of offer and you can also visit the local shops in Varkala town, 10 minutes by rickshaw from here.

There are the touristic restaurants on the cliff with all kind of offer and many vegetarian options and you can also visit the local restaurants and chai shops in Varkala town and here around the cliff. There is wi-fi in most every restaurants.

Varkala Beach is a place visited by people from all around the world, and most of them, in some way, connected or curious about alternative areas, alternative life style, yoga people, therapists, teachers, musicians, etc. The high season time is between October and April and the top is January to March.

Why I’m on Couchsurfing

I am on Couchsurfing because:
1st, Gratitude to Life and the Universe for giving me this beautiful palace where I am living now, for my 2 little angels, for all of us being healthy, for having a plate of food to eat every day, for living in such a beautiful place, near the Nature, for having a decent life for me and my daughters, for being able to travel....and for so many other blessings.

2nd because eventually I may inspire people to care more for their health and the Planet's health by adopting a vegan diet and experience how much delicious and nutritious food they can have, to exchange knowledge and a way of simple living, more near to the deepness of the soul than the surface of the smartphone screen.

3rd fortunately I have a bed and some food to give to a traveler;

4th because I love to meet and interact with people from all over the world;

5th because I want to do for travelers what I would like hosts to do for me and my daughters while in our travels.

Music, Movies, and Books

So so many...

One Amazing Thing I’ve Done

So many amazing things I have experienced!... I can never say one single one, but many of them, because they all were amazing in such a different ways.

1997 Portugal, Geres: Free horse ridding on the jungle on a crazy horse that decided to run away with me on him! That was adrenaline to the top! I just remember that I was grabbing his neck with my arms and his body with my legs as much tight I could. I didn't fall. :-)
Finally the other boys came running on their horses behind me and managed to stop that crazy horse.

2003 France, Paris: To explore the Eurodisney and Paris, absolutely loved it! I felt like a child and I dream of taking my daughter's there.

2005 Dominican Republic: Swimming with dolphins, magical! The wisdom and ancestrality in their eyes is huge, similar to an elephant.

2006 Greece, Corfu Island: I rented a car and explore half of this beautiful island, secret corners and rainbows in bays on the most magic moments with a best friend. Unforgettable.

2009 North India, Varanasi: contemplating about life and death on the Ganges River while dead bodies were being burned near the river and people were bathing and washing clothes not far from there. (!!!...)

2011 Morocco: travel for 2 months in the deserts and Atlas mountains in Morocco on a moto4, stargazing the infinite stars and shooting starts on Morocco deserts. The most beautiful night sky I ever saw.

2014 The Natural Home Birth of my second daughter without anaesthesia, 15 hours hand on hand with her father, at home with a doula and a midwife, something unforgettable;

2016 Thailand did scuba diving for the first time and was absolutely fascinated with the incredible and so silent under water world. Love it!

2017 South India, Varkala: Paragliding jump from Varkala cliff.

2018 South India, Munnar: Trekking a hard to treck waterfall;

2019 Trip to North India in 14 days, more than 2.000kms on a Royal Enfield. In this trip I went to Amritsar, Golden Temple, Mc Leod Ganges where I saw the Dalai Lama giving a speech, Dharmsala where I did paragliding, Jammu where I did the pilgrimage to Matta Devi Veishnu, I traveled to Pahalgam and Nathatop, then Srinagar, Sonmarg, Kargil, Ladhak, Leh, Kardungla, Tiksit, last villages in India, just before Pakistan and Numbra Valley, I went from temperatures from 50 degrees to minus zero, sun and rain, I saw snowy and rocky mountains , I was on the highest motorable road in the world and on the highest sand dunes desert in the world, I saw snow, green valleys, crossed incredibly dangerous roads, went to sikhim, Hindu, Muslim and Buddhist temples and monasteries, learn the culture, history of places, the people, the food, it was amazing.

Everywhere: watching the sunset on the sea and beautiful nature places, dancing for hours and hours with friends and so much more...

Teach, Learn, Share

I absolutely love to teach on any subject related to reiki, astrology, numerology, life coaching, women empowering, yoga and so much more!

Codependency and love addiction recovering;
Shamanism practices and/or Shamanic Course;
Vipassana Meditation;
Familiar Constellations.

What I Can Share with Hosts

I should inform you that I am an awkward, shy, introverted kind of person, however, I like deep interesting talks and I love to laugh.

Because this place is where I live and is where I work, because I have my 2 little daughters and my private life and my own time alone it might happen that we don't get the chance to spend much time together and in some times of the year non at all!

So in some cases I might not give you the ideal Coachsurf experience and in some other cases you might get positively overwhelmed with the experience.
In any case I will give the best I possibly can.

Dormitory in rooftop.

You can prepare your meals, using our shared kitchen facilities.
We might offer vegan lunch, depending on our availability.
The Krishna Supermarket is 5 minutes from here, walking distance.

If we have a yoga teacher and yoga classes going on you can join them for free.

I am quite busy and I cannot guarantee to spend time with every single guest, but If I am available I can:

Tell you about the culture in Kerala;
A guided walk through the Cliffs;
Take you to the Sacred Spring on the Cliff;
Take you for a puja (spiritual ceremony) on Durga Temple.
Backwaters tour

In case I am not available and you would like to do any of these things, if I am free, I can organize for you.

Anyway there are always volunteers from all over the world on the house with whom you can connect.

If you would like to receive services from me (therapies, classes, readings, events, etc), you can choose one of these options
2: You pay 15% less than the normal price.
3: You share with me your own knowledge and skills for the same time I spend with you.

that I am a person with a lot of interests and fortunately a lot of work. Because of that I cannot ensure that I will be able to give you the attention you deserve. However, I am also lucky to share this house with beautiful volunteers with whom you will able to share interests, knowledge and activities.
