About Me
Hey there fellow couchsurfers! I am Sophie Matters, a 24-year-old who currently resides on the beautiful Gold Coast in Australia.
How would I describe myself? A curious being who is bubbly, passionate and excited about life. My main passion is travel, which is something I am sure we all have in common.
I have just recently returned home to Australia after living in London for the past two years. Here I worked full-time for a travel company while gallivanting around Europe and the UK as much as possible. I learnt a lot about myself, other people and life, though I was being pulled back home and am quite content here - just for a little while.
Now, I am working three (vastly different) jobs - in skincare, the travel industry and hospitality. This is because I am saving up to book a one way ticket to somewhere in Asia and begin what I hope will be my greatest adventure of all. I plan on going with the flow and seeing where life takes me around the Asian continent for as long as my funds permit. I am also studying a TESOL certificate online, which will allow me to teach English as a second language and be of service to others on the road.
I have plenty of interests, however travel has been the one constant that gets me going everyday. It facilitates human connection, which I believe to be of great importance in life. There is a vast, diverse and exciting world out there and I will be damned if I sit in a proverbial bubble and don't get out and explore as much as possible while I am physically and mentally able.
A quote that I try and live by: “The time is now, the place is here. Stay in the present. You can do nothing to change the past, and the future will never come exactly as you plan or hope for.”
I look forward to meeting you and exchanging stories along the way!
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
While travelling, I have stayed in hostels, hotels, bnbs, tents - the usual. But on my next adventure, I want to get out of my comfort zone (this is where growth happens after all). Enter - couchsurfing! Making friends, exchanging stories and learning about local cultures are just some of the things I want to get out of my next adventure as well.
