Overview
About Me
I am someone who believes that life experiences will have a greater value and impact on me personally than a college experience could give me. This is why I yearn to travel: there is no comparable experience to it.
I am a singer and songwriter in the process of creating my first album. So far I have done everything on my own on Garage Band but have been working on side collaborations with local musicians.
On a day-to-day basis, I am working two jobs so that I can afford to travel in hopes to practice acculturation, find inspiration, and obtain more independence.
I have been a vegetarian for eight years but more recently became a vegan for multiple reasons. I am excited to experience the challenges of this during travel or to be surprised if I find it to be simple.
I am also very crafty and love to knit, sketch, paint, sew, or do anything creative.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
My goal is to gather most of my inspiration for my album whilst traveling and to collaborate with musicians in Europe. I think that couch surfing is the perfect solution to acculturating and immersing myself in a foreign country as I'll be able to meet and stay with locals rather than spend money at an Americanised and expensive establishment.

Music, Movies, and Books
My favourite music genres are indie pop, ambient, ethereal, dream pop, folk, Norwegian, eerie, solemn, vintage, classical etc...some examples are Lana Del Rey, Aurora, Simon and Garfunkel, Etta James, Beach House, Purity Ring, Susanne Sundfør, Milk&Bone, and Roy Orbison.
My favourite movies usually include ones that are cinematically centered. For example Wes Anderson and Baz Luhrmann films. But my all time favourite film is Anna Karenina which I saw for the first time a few months ago. I was very surprised at the sophistication, symbolism, and elaborateness of the sets and cinematography.
Sadly, I do not have any favourate books yet. I hope to one day be an avid reader but every time I think that I should read, I end up writing or making music.
One Amazing Thing I’ve Done
The most independent and unexpected thing I have done with my life thus far was being an au pair in Italy this past summer. Prior to this experience, I had never traveled alone before. It happened out of the blue when my mother's ex-coworker contacted her saying that her sister who lives in Italy's best friend was looking for an American au pair for her two children. Without much consideration, I started looking up flights and contacting the family. A few months later I arrived in Italy. For the first few weeks, I was too nervous to go out in town on my own because of the language barrier but I soon deduced that it's fairly easy to communicate without full sentences and soon I was able to pick up on a good amount of Italian. I even befriended the owners of the local gelateria and lived with them above their store for my last month in Italy when I was not in other cities or countries. I learned to appreciate people and aspects of my home town even more as well as other cultures. I hope to gain even more perspectives for this purpose.
