About Me
ABOUT ME
Well, I'm a student of Philosophy at Bard College in New York state. I'm from rural Maine and have politically liberal, socially conservative parents from whom I suppose I must have gotten most of my ideologies. But I like to think I'm pretty open minded, and I certainly prefer to hear all sides of something before I can make any sort of judgment on it. I'm quite open, and very honest, and I love to explore and meet new people even though I'm a bit shy sometimes. I always like a good discussion, preferably one in which I learn something.
I find myself confronted with quite a bit of inner conflict, being equally and simultaneously drawn both to the depths of any given library and to the peaks of any given mountainous wilderness out the window. So I guess that means that I'm up for just about anything.
PHILOSOPHY
Ah— still figuring this out.
Why I’m on Couchsurfing
HOW I PARTICIPATE IN COUCHSURFING
I don't have a good couch to offer up at the moment, so right now I'm just an outgoing surfer. That said, though, I hope I can contribute to wherever I go: I'm not a great cook, but I'm good at stirring and can set a mean table.
COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE
I haven't couch surfed yet, but I've heard great things about it from some world-wise friends and I'm eager to try it out, visit a new place and meet some amazing people!
Interests
Since I'm studying it, I suppose I had better be interested in philosophy, and especially of language. But my original interest, which now lies dormant since Bard doesn't have a program, was in linguistics. I'm really interested in writing, and alternate forms of pedagogy. I also really enjoy literature, composting and other aspects of sustainable urban planning, and really anything that anyone else is excited about and wants to talk about or teach!

Music, Movies, and Books
I, Claudius by Robert Graves is one of my all time favorites, as well as anything by G.G. Marquez, and Margaret Atwood, Jane Austen. Harry Potter is my one, true love. I also like non-fiction but don't often read a lot of it.
My choices in music are always in flux, and since I'm more of a layman music listener I'm not very good at classifying my tastes. It's a good bet though that I like Dispatch, Fleetwood Mac, Grimes, Animal Collective, Iron and Wine, Manu Chau, Chris Thile, Vetiver, Pete Doherty, Lake Street Dive, Belle and Sebastian, Modest Mouse.. I get most of my music from other people and am always looking to listen to new stuff.
Teach, Learn, Share
I grew up in a house with solar power and a composting toilet. For a long time I was really embarrassed by this but now I am proud, and love to talk to people about all kinds of composting and energy efficient ways. I also love to talk about philosophy of language, and see how detailed attention to language can change the way we see issues.
I love to listen to music, but I've never been good at seeking out new music and so I like to hear what other people like to see if I like it too. I'm really open to talking about and learning about anything!
