ABOUT ME

I'm a final year (hopefully) Ph.D. student that loves art and music, and wants to learn some new languages.

I love travelling - experiencing new things, trying new food, making new friends, working out confusing public transport, and everything else! In August-October 2010 I am travelling Japan and Western Europe with my partner :)

I was born in South Africa to Scottish and French parents, and moved to New Zealand when I was 12. So I guess that might make me a little multi-cultural?

PHILOSOPHY

I strongly believe in democracy, free culture, freedom of expression, and being friendly and optimistic. Life should be (and can be) fun and enjoyable for everybody.

It sounds cheesy, but I would love to meet new friends around the world!

If you are ever travelling through my small city, you are always most welcome to crash on our couch :)

COUCHSURFING EXPERIENCE

Many of my best friends have used CouchSurfing many times, but I haven't yet hosted or surfed.

My research is in computer science and web applications - I'm also passionately interested in free culture, Internet culture, and open source. I really enjoy a good argument.

Other interests? Playing guitar, playing drums, writing music, seeing live music, playing computer games, walking, tramping, public transport, writing and reading, seeing art and art performances, eating and drinking :D, and exploring and travelling of course :-)

Touring the South Island of New Zealand twice - both trips have definitely been a highlight of my life.

Um, I could teach almost anything about computing? Making web sites or computer programs, fixing computers, installing software or hardware, protecting your privacy and freedom online. I could teach guitar, bass or drums (tabs, performing, technique, etc), and give some ideas on how to write music.

I want to learn some languages :( I'd love to learn French, Japanese, German or Spanish in particular, but I would love to learn any new language!
